Thanks for that. The RC-71 is a recent purchase from eBay UK. It has no strain relief, but the cable is wrapped with gaffer tape inside the unit to stop it being pulled out.

Can anyone tell me the specs for the cable entry grommet on the body of the RC-71 please? I need to replace a missing one.

Looks to me like they Tascam DX-4D dbx units, from the bits that I can see through the wrapping.

In case anyone should need a copy: I have just uploaded a scan of the M-30 Operation and Maintenance Manual to Hi-Fi Engine. It should appear after processing, don't know how long that will take though.

On the M-30: Are you using the channel assign buttons to route the signal to any of the four output channels? If not, you will neither see any indication on the meters or, hear anything from the headphone output.

The pin that is through the elongated hole in the lever near centre of your photo, should have a suitable "e-ring" on it, similar to the one on the pivot to its left. The scuffing on the lever around the pin would suggest this.

Hi, I had the same problem with my Tascam 34. Inside the flywheel, there is a metal washer with rubber bonded to it. The rubber will have turned to goo. On my 34 I added an M6 x 5mm or 6mm Teflon spacer to the flywheel shaft. I don't know if you will need the same size spacer as I don't have...

Aah, the wonders of clean heads! The TEAC X-3R uses the same pinch roller.

Tracks/channels are numbered 1 to 4 from the top. From the photo, the black marks on the heads could be tape oxide. This needs to be cleaned away completely with head cleaning fluid.

I wouldn't have thought acrylic foam was any good for repairing a pinch roller, you need the correct thing. It would be interesting to see a picture of that repair.
