The Syteks are a very nice unit. Somewhat under-rated. It would serve you extremely well. But the main reason I would spend a bit more and go the route I suggested, is for variety.
If you get the Sytek, then you've got 4 very nice preamps.... but they are all identical. Variety is a very good...

Personally, the only Presonus gear I would touch is the DigiMax, and that's only because the clock in it is sposed to be fantastic. All other Presonus gear I've used has been noisy and quite bland.
And with Focusrite, you really need to get into the ISA range to get anything decent.
What...
LOL, that's probably not as silly as it sounds.
I had thought about that, but last time I tried it (admittedly it was Win98) I could only record in 8bit. Does the XP version record in 16bit?
OK, here's the deal
I have a friend who needs some simple (and hopfully cheap) software that will, with as little effort as possible, record a boardroom conference.
So just something that will simply record to a stereo track and leave it ready to burn to CD.
Hopefully something that once...
Here's another vote for the RNC. Sure, you'll get better, like the Distressor, LA2A, 1176, Buzz SOC1.1, etc. etc., but the RNC does sit quite comfortable in a lot of pro studios. So for the cost, it a whole lotta bang for your buck.
A friend of mine with an audio store got a couple of the dual comps in to put on the shelf. One was DOA, but the one that did work, we put put through its paces and it performed quite admirably. But it's no RNC ;)
Mr Q is quite correct, the Grace is a beautiful preamp, but if I had written that post I would have been telling you to get a Buzz Audio because that's what I have.
The truth is, they are both great high-end preamps. As are the likes of Great River, Chandler, Phoenix, API, Vintech, etc. etc...
You can mix on anything. You just have to learn how they translate.
I agree that a good pair of cans is probably the way to go. It's the only way you are going to hear the full dynamic range of your bass for that money.
Worth looking at the Beyerdynamic DT990pro...
It's just as well everyone's brain is different. Otherwise it would be a very boring world ;)
Everyone can only give advice based on their own experiences. In my situation for my purposes I'd go for my above mentioned path given only those choices. Of course everyone's situation is different...
Quick disclaimer.
These recordings were made by one person playing one guitar. The mics were plugged into one preamp which was plugged into one AD converter etc etc.
And on the other side, every playback system the mp3 is played on will make the result sound different also.
Also this is just...
