    Shure or Sennheiser

Sure is. I used to see them on guitar cabs in big live rigs regularly. Great in the studio too.

    Shure or Sennheiser

Can your live system handle a condenser? If you can find a 2nd hand CAD E100, they were always killer on guitar cabs, and drums and..............

    Neumann for vocals

I tried them both out, and others when I was looking for a new pre-amp. I really didn't think the VMpro was much different to my Mindprint Envoice. And I ranked the RNP slightly ahead. Then I got a killer deal on a Buzz Audio so there was no contest in the end LOL. But the thing is, it's all...

    Neumann for vocals

Not in my opinion. I would class the RNP above Focusrite Platinum. And the quality of the RNC is well documented. No, never think like that. Your "front end" is more important than the quality of your sound card. A quality mic and pre through an avarage card will always give you a better...

    Neumann for vocals

The preamp is mid-level at a stretch, similar in quality to say a Focusrite Platinum series. The compressor is quite acceptable. But the big plus is the EQ. It is quite exquisite! Lovely sounding EQ. So basically it really is a pitty that the preamp isn't up to scratch.

    Alto rack gear

Alto gear is built to a very small budget, and so it sounds and performs like low budget gear. If that's what you want then that's fine, but you won't see me or many others endorsing it. A friend of mine bought 3 dual comps for his live rig. 2 of the 3 were DOA. That was enough to convince him...

    Studio Projects C vs. B

Well, there's really only a couple of people here who can really answer that, so we'll wait for Alan or Brent.

    Studio Projects B-3 and C-1

The beauty of mics is that as long as you're not buying crap, you can never have enough. There will be a particular use for every mic you own. You'll probably even find that the mic that sounds great for strumming will not really suit picking etc. etc. It all comes down to how many mics you can...

tom micing problem, cant kill buzz

Yep, as I suspected. Clip-on mics are not ideal for recording purposes. They transfer every little vibration into the mic. Always use mic stands where possible. And always check the kit acoustically for vibrations and get rid of any. The mics will pick them up and spoil your recording.

tom micing problem, cant kill buzz

Unless your 57's have problems I'd doubt it's the mics. I've used 57's on toms for some very hard hitting drummers with no clipping problems. How are you mounting the mics? I'm wondering if you are getting stand rattle? Can you hear any vibrations when you sit and play the kit?

    Recording Standup Bass

Well everyone has their own method and none are right or wrong. You'll need to experiment and see what wirks for you. My preferred method is a large condenser about 2 feet in front of the bridge, and a small condenser pointing at the fingerboard near the top of the body.

    Studio Projects B-3 and C-1

Like those little packs of crystals you find in a shoe box with new shoes, with "do not eat" written on them. They absorb moisture. You can buy them new. I think somebody somewhere said that the easiest place to find them is in a gun shop.

Studio Projects B3 vs. Behringer B2 Pro

The Studio Projects is probably the best mic you'll find anywhere for that money. The Behringer I wouldn't give you 5c for. And that's not just because it's a Behringer.

    Studio Projects B-3 and C-1

There is no doubt and no debate that the B1 and B3 are different sounding mics. Alan Hyatt himself will be the first to tell you that. He says that the B1 has a darker sound. And as for preferring one over the other, well that's just a totally personal and subjective opinion. Everyone just has...

    Studio Projects B-3 and C-1

The V67 is quite a nice mic too, I have one. But it is rather dark sounding. So again you'd need to test it on your voice with your preamp to see if it suits. FWIW, I do most of my acoustic guitar recording with the V67, but only because it really seems to suit my guitarist's Epiphone...

    Studio Projects B-3 and C-1

WOW, hard to advise here. You'll probably be happy which ever way you go. The B3 is probably a better acoustic mic due to the 3 micron diphram, but the C1 is possibly the better vocal mic. If I were you, I'd purchase both on credit card from a store with a 7 day (or more) return policy, try them...

    superlux

I've had the oportunity to use a CM-H8D tube mic and I'd use it again in a heart-beat over the MXL V67 and the SP C1. Sound was very clean and full through a high-end Buzz Audio preamp. The 3 micron diaphram gives it a nice sensitivity too. Oh, and they retail for about AU$1500 here so I...

    Really Cheap Mic Preamps

Yep, I'll second the MG 12/4 For 200 clams you really can't go wrong. And Yamaha is a name you won't get embarrased saying..... unlike another starting with "B" ;)

    Focusrite or Presonus?

I stand corrected. The Sytek/RNC route now looks more attractive than it did.
