Yea the Rubys are definitely Chinese it says on the tube. I read somewhere that although Chinese, they are selected vs. the mass produced ones.
on the tube it has 7025 / 12AX7A C and it says "Selected" at the bottom.
Oh ok, well I guess it couldnt hurt to try them out and a/b vs the stock...
I have a shitty P4 and i have already swapped out to a slower CPU fan and that helped alot, but after quieting the CPU fan, I began to notice these really high pitched whines. They are apparently coming from the CPU and the HDDs.
The machine is on the closet floor with decent ventilation when...
Kudos Man! I knew it had to be somewhere....
Now If I can only get a copy of the Convolution Reverb presets, somehow mine are missing and havent had the time to reinstall.
Sorry let me be technical.
I was referring to the computer tower, between the cpu fan, power supply and HDDs, the whining was driving me nuts.
Especially when I started recording...night and day difference.
I knew I had a set of Ruby 12AX7 preamp tubes somewhere and I found them today!
I'm wondering 2 things what brand are the stock MPA Gold tubes?
And would it be a good idea trying out the Ruby's on the MPA?
Thanks guys,
GN
My home studio has been active lately and since CPU noise was always a problem I decided to try the "throw it in the closet" method.
I was able to rearrange the studio in such a way to force the CPU in the closet space.
I used extra vga cables and a wireless mouse and keyboard setup...
I think I got it, I assigned the 3/4 outs and have them routed back to a channel on the beri, I now have the headphone mix where I can add outboard verb to give the singer whatever makes them comfortable.:) I was thinking this was going to cause latency issues, but none that I can tell or enough...
Frank I appreciate the info and the reply, my post was aimed at the other member before you, but I think you nailed it.
It's all good, I never thought the alesis was a mixdown compressor but I have used it on several things like drums and bass with decent results.
you know what they say if...
This is why i asked is there is anything wrong with running the mpa thru the alesis.
But aside from saying it's not good, can you elaborate or explain why?
Or are you stuck on repeating what you've heard, have you used it before?
How would it degrade the sound?
I'm not defending the alesis...
The singer I'm recording has a hard time staying in one place, so levels go all over the place. I find a little compression helps to smooth out the levels a bit.
It's easier to post process in other words, and whats wrong with the alesis? I see they aren't popular online, but I cant afford a $1k...
I do know I need to compress, but I'm talking very minimal just help a little with signal normalization. I'm talking 2.1 and not alot of threshold.
I was just asking if there is any issues from compressing the output of the MPA?
I dont get this part, but ok. Thanks for trying to help.
Ok guys, I just took another plunge; I figured it made no sense to have a decent mic (AT 4040) and then run it thru my behringer mixer’s preamp.
Honestly the preamps on the behringer would have done me fine for now; if I just kept working with it, and they aren’t terribly noisy. However the...
First of all does the mbox have a preamp? If yes does it also offer line inputs(bypassing the preamp)? Flexibility?
This is what I would do for now, if the mbox has a preamp, then get a decent condenser try it to see how noisy it sounds.
If you find you would rather upgrade, keep in mind that...
I dont think you get it.
?????????????
You need to understand that mic preamps serve 2 main purposes.
Amplify your mic and provide color or transparency to your sound. Again You need to decide what you want and Trust me color (tubes) costs money.
Any entry level preamp will probably serve...
Like I said before, not trying to rain on your research, but all of the info you get is going to be opinions.
And I doubt anything in this price range is really going to be close to a neumann, lets just keep it real. :)
No Guts No Glory, works here!!! :D
Best thing to do is decide what kind of sound you want...?
Something Midrange? Something Bright? or Something transparent/ Flat?
Compare frequency response graphs to get an idea on what to expect and just go for it..
Honestly without having the 3 mics in front of you to audition, you are just...
