    Adobe Audition?

It depends on whether what's in Audition 1.5 is worth, to you, what it costs. Check out the new features on the Adobe site, download an evaluation version, and see what you think. For me, in the context of what I do, it's fantastic - but for you, it could make no difference at all.

    Hear only Bass??

Cut the high frequencies with, say, the parametric or graphic eq and you'll hear more of the bass (or less of everything else). Not much you can do about drums as a drum kit covers a wide range of frequencies.

    converting tape to CD

Firstly, you should be able to plug the line out from the cassette deck straight into the line in of the computer. Alternatively, if your hi fi amp can accommodate two cassette decks as many can, you can treat your computer as if it were the second cassette deck and simply set it to copy from...

    Recording instruments

To begin with at least, use 16 bits, 44.1kHz - does that fix the problem? I have to say that it sounds like something else is amiss here to end up with a file of that size!

    converting tape to CD

I look at a question like that and groan - not derisively, because you can probably do a whole lot of things which would puzzle me greatly, but because I could write pages trying to answer your question in a way that would cover all bases. The trouble with the Cool Edit manual is that it's...

    auto hard limiting to -7db

Cool Edit simply records what the sound card passes it, via the sound card's mixer (or windows mixer, whichever is applicable). Try recording with the windows sound recorder or the like to see what happens if you eliminate Cool Edit from the equation as a test.

    MIDI to Aduio ?

Only by playing back the midi track while recording the output of your soundcard into another track. You may be able to do this with an appropriate setup of your soundcard's mixer, or you might have to connect its output to its input physically.

CEP SE Version 1.1 user- Shall I go to 2+/Audition?

Very hard to say given the varying needs of each user. I don't think you will qualify for an upgrade deal.... you'd have to check with Adobe direct. But I'd strongly suggest downloading the trial version and seeing whether what it offers is worth, to you, the cost. Personally I couldn't work...

    Need help with ripping vocals

Total success with the AA1.4 CCE does depend still on the material (the factor of stereo reverb still applies - that will still be heard if you remove the voice itself), but it's more useful for "serious" purposes for making balance adjustments to stereo files which hitherto would have been...

    mono playback

It's a pity that there is no overall "mono" button in Audition for doing the checking you describe. If you are using AA1.5 or have a VST wrapper, the freeeware VST effect "C_Superstereo" is a handy tool for checking mono/stereo compatibility etc.

    Need help with ripping vocals

I don't know whether there is a standard answer somewhere on this forum to this standard question, but elsewhere the standard answer is as follows:- " Is it possible to remove vocals from an existing track? Well, the short answer is...Yes...and No. The simple reason for these opposite...

Why Can I not Open Large WAVS

If it was a 24/96 file, it wouldn't be hugely long. What's the spec of the file and what version of CE is involved? Are you opening it from within the program (file open) or double clicking on the file from the OS? The only limit I know of is at 4Gb (max size of any wave file).

    Effects - Silence

"Silence" is only available in edit view. It uses cpu while the effect is applied - all it is doing is to write digital silence into the selected part of the file. Then it's done, so no more cpu is used thereafter (any more than playing any other part of the file). You could say that using...

Is there a way to send a CE recording over the phone?

Not entirely the answer to the original question, but http://s2.yousendit.com/ offers a service which assists in sending large files from one person to another - ones too big for ordinary email. Apparently it's free. (Trouble is, did I see it here in the first place?! Sorry if it's repeat...

trouble recording on laptop/soundcard not good enough?

It certainly does appear to do everything you want except record.... http://www.echoaudio.com/Products/IndigoIO/index.php is worth a look but it requires a line-level input from a mixer - but frankly that's almost a prerequisite for a decent mic preamp, and going that route (using a mixer and...

    clipping after applying effect?

Yup, that's my view too. So accepting that, the best method is to work in 32 bits using realtime effects. Mix down to 32 bits, then in edit view normalise the file before converting to 16 bits for burning. And/or, use the program's mixer to ensure that clipping does not occur (same as you...

    boost vocals

Download an evalutation of AA1.5 if you haven't already got it and try the Centre Channel Extractor's "6dB vocal boost" preset - you can do things with that tool that you wouldn't believe. I've just been using it on an orchestral recording with oboe soloist, recorded with a single stereo pair -...

    Still frustrated with Audition 1.5

What's options > settings > multitrack > playback buffer size set to? Say 2 seconds would be good. Also right click on the mix gauge and ensure that it's set to mixahead at least 10 seconds. Unplug the external drive and if necessary reset where the temp files reside, then see what happens...

    clipping after applying effect?

I find myself saying "You what??" :) It's difficult to comment on your approach because you have your own reasons for following it, which I don't fully understand - as far as I am aware, a session file contains everything needed for the session, I just don't see where you concern about .ini...

http://www.ggrugby.co.uk/Richard-Riley-Audio-Editing-with-Cool-E-275-158-955-9.html might help? (And if that link doesn't work, look on Google for Richard Riley's book on Cool Edit)
