If you win the older PreSonus LT, get BLA to mod the converter section on that..I had one ( I sold it tho'... Long story...) that Matt modded for me a few years ago and it really upped the ante on that unit.!..Talk about removing the haze..!..Good luck..
Hello.Have a couple pieces of Behringer outboard that I'll trade for some Corning 703 or 705 to make a few mid/Bass traps..Anyone have a few pieces laying around, give me a PM..!..Thanks..
Probably after you get into the digital realm, most of the gear you have unfortunately will really " collect dust"..!..I had an analog studio from the late 80's/90's with decent gear that as digital became more and more popular/usable, end up either selling it/giving it away/ or still have...
To add to what Lt. Bob said. It's not just the converter chip/rate ( ie.. 16 bit 44.1khz) that makes a converter sound good/bad, it's the analog circuit design around it..That's why some of the good converters set at 16 bit/44.khz sounds better than some of the less better/cheaper ( is that good...
Don't get one that's too cheap..( cheap design that is, as there are less costly ones with good designs, etc.), because it may be worse than the ones on the 488 and skew your decision/purpose of an external pre amp..Good luck..
Even though I understand what the guys are saying about a better recording medium than the 488, I have to add that I recorded a friend some years ago that was using a 488..I used better outboard pres and the results were very different ( in a good way) than using the built in pre..Actually, the...
True this..But I'd rather tell studio musicians give me a minute to get a replacement ( as they might be a little more forgiving), than to tell 1000 drunk, rowdy fans at a live show give me a minute...(lol)..YMMV..
As for live, I prefer passive.Studio, not such a big deal as it more "controlled" enviorment...I've always been a big fan of individual components and not integrated gear..If you have a active speaker for live, better have a back up pair in case the speaker pops or the amp blows..!..With...
Also, a clean pre helps in the many, many stack tracks senario..You can choose to "color" a signal by selecting a different mic, compressor,etc.., if needed. If the pre is already " colored", many stacked tracks may ( or may not depending on what you want) may muddy your track...
The difference are the converters..The XR boasts better converters ( rightly so)..Lots of people actually dump the HD24 into a computer for editing and dump back to the HD24 to mix into an analog console..It works very well for live recording or studio recording..( I used mine for studio...
Exactly...When Adats were in demand ( or something), I remember this group that asked me to mix their Adat tracked song, had 'bout 48 tracks ( 6 Adat machines locked together). After listening to the track I asked them if I could " produce" this song..They said yes..I re-arranged/edited/...
There's a lot of truth to this..That being said, I was just " consulting" with a new studio owner the other day about some of this same issues..Advertisers get big named artist/engineers to endorse a " miracle" product and make big claims..But.........they fail to tell you that these people uses...
