    Alternative Mic to CAD e100s?

I have to agree. I've used an E100 for recording podcasts and it worked just fine. I also have a pair of Aston Origins and although I haven't used them for voice overs, they do everything else so well that I can't imagine they wouldn't be good for that application. Also have an AT2020 that works...

    Akg d-220 & d-110

I've been thinking that it's time to upgrade my drum mics. I've been using a set of AKG D-220s on toms for many years. They were cheap but I couldn't remember how much I paid for them. In Searching the internet for the original price, I came across an old thread that referred to the D-220s as...

which mic is better, at2020 plus or blue yeti

I've never been a big fan of Blue mics...they seem noisy to me. I have had good results with the AT2020. I usually use more "upscale" mics for vocals, but I've found that the 2020 works well for podcast and voice over applications. Also, I often use it when recording thin-ish sounding vocalists...

    QuadraVerb GT program cloning?

Yes, the GT can send and receive SysEx dumps. You can send/receive individual programs or the entire program bank. Standard SysEx implementation, you can send to another GT or to any computer program that can store SysEx data (there are many free SysEx storage programs available). I believe that...

USB or Firewire Mixer with lots of I/O

My Alesis Multimix 16 Firewire mixer just stopped working. Actually, the analog part of the mixer still works fine, but the firewire I/O has just died. This mixer gave me 18 unique outputs via firewire. I've been looking for a replacement. It seems like all of the small format options from...

    Alesis MMT-8 Firmware

Looks like the last version was 1.11. Last update in 1990. Good luck rounding up one of those chips. MMT8.com: Software / ROM Version History [tso]

    Alexis Data Disk Firmware

Yes, the difference is just an eprom update that takes a few seconds to replace. I'm sure that there has not been an update to the data disk in at least 20 years. I can't image that Alesis has any of those chips, they probably all went into the trash during the great bankruptcy. There may be a...

Any Trick to reduce wind noise in iso booth?

I have two iso rooms. One is about 10 feet by 10 feet and the other is about 8 feet by 8 feet. Whenever the door is opened or closed in either room there is wind noise in my more sensitive condensers. This, of course, is very annoying. The wind, I guess, is caused by the vacuum/pressure effect...

    Rode M5 or NT5?

I don't know anything about the M5's, but I have a pair of NT5's and I'm not very happy with them. The NT5's are bright and brittle. I bought them for use as drum overheads but found them to be not usable for that purpose. AT4041s are much better.

Tascam Dm4800 and the loss of control port 1,2 and 3

I have the exact same set up. This issue happens to me on a regular basis, usually after I have updated some software or reset my clock from 48K to 96K. I am always able to fix it by throwing away the Logic preferences and rebooting. Quit Logic Pro In the Finder, choose Go to Folder from the...

Alesis SR18 - problem with first step in a pattern right after FILL

I've never used an SR-18, but if it works like an SR-16, whenever you play a fill the first beat of the fill pattern replaces beat 1 in the following regular pattern. Whatever you want to hear on the downbeat coming out of the fill needs to be programed in the fill, NOT the regular pattern. If...

    Trap Placement Feedback

I just built 2 2x4 Bass Traps loaded with 4" of roxul to augment what I already have in the studio. I had originally planned to mount them at a 45 degree angle at the ceiling/wall corner behind the desk and move the clouds that are currently mounted about 18" from the wall to a position parallel...

    let me see your studio!

This looks great. It makes me wish I could go back 10 years and re-construct my own studio. I would have been more careful about the placement of the observation windows. All of my windows were set about 6 or 8 inches to high, OK if you are standing, but not optimal for a seated drummer or other...

    Tascam dm4800 & firewire card.... Windows 7????

You don't need an FW card to control Cubase from the DM4800 and vice/versa. Thew FW card is mainly for passing Audio. The card does have midi, so I guess you could use it for control. Machine control is done through basic Midi connections. I think midi through the USB connection on the DM4800 is...

Is it worth finding cheap tube pre's for Alesis MultiMix 8?

The Pres on all of the Alesis low end mixers are junk. I use one as a submixer for keyboards, I would not use it for more than that. Before you invest in an external pre, you want to figure out how you can bypass the the mixer's built in pres. I don't think this is easily done with the Alesis units.

DM 3200 - recoring via FW with and without EQ, Compressor etc.

You could try routing your inputs to the Busses and then route your busses to the inputs on the FW card(set Slot routing to Buss#, instead of M/L#). I use this buss routing method when I want to record with EQ and Compression on the DM-4800 to an ADAT hard disk. It should work just a well for...

    Studio in Garage

I did a lot of google research and had a Fujitsu Halcyon installed. One contractor tried very hard to sell me a General brand A/C unit, but I couldn't find a single positive review. When I asked if he had any other brands, he stopped returning my calls. Anyway, it cost about $3200 and took a...

    Studio in Garage

I installed a Mini-split A/C unit in my Garage conversion studio. The area is about 550 square feet. It only required one very small hole in the wall. It works great and is dead quiet. Wish I had installed it years ago.
