Have to agree that when it comes to guitars a mic'd amp is going to sound 'better' than going direct in to your machine.
The reason for this is, apparently, a guitar amp is designed to do a certain amount of processing to the signal (something with the higher frequencies, i think?) which is...
Hello there,
I went and got myself an ART Tube MP Studio V3 preamp fairly cheap off the net and am wondering if I got a dud?
My problem is the noise it makes. I've read a lot of reviews and obviously noise came up a lot. I wasn't expecting anything like top or even mid range quality from a...

ez - no and stops if I turn the lights off or move away from the light. It does stop if I touch the plug on the lead at the guitar end.
Haven't yet sussed all the knobs out on the bass yet but it gets louder when I turn one of them all the way up. It's either the high freq tone or the pickup...
Thanks for that Tadpui. Apparently the insides have been painting using some king of paint. Somebody else suggested foil but I'm scared of shorting the thing!
No, not fluorescent, just regular - in my front room. But they are on dimmer switches which i think is the root of the problem.
So, normal behaviour from the bass then...I shouldn't feel robbed?!
My bass is making a terrible buzz. A clever man on here said it maybe to do with other electrical appliances that are on the same circuit.
I turned everything from the pc to the fridge off to try and prove that theory. The last thing left to turn off (besides the bass amp) were the lights...
Found the cause of where the buzz on my bass is coming from. Not the fridge but the lights in my front room which are on a dimmer switch!
Blimey. Is that normal for a bass/guitar. Do I have any ground to go back to the shop and shout at them???
well, the buzz isn't consistent, it gets worse when I'm nearer the fridge or if I touch the end of my lead which goes into the bass (i guess because I'm conducting more RF interference into it?).
Tell me it's not the bass. Please, tell me it's not the bass!
Tandy have pretty much been replaced over here by a company called Maplins. They're great for components but terribly over priced for mics, mixers or any other products.
Just checked your web page out. Love your home made tube amp. Always wanted one but they cost thousands of £'s over here...
Big Buddy Rich fan so I'll check that video out...what was the track?!
Unfortunately I'm living in a first floor flat (apartment) so may not have many options when it comes to rewiring. But from what you're saying, the problem doesn't lie within the bass? If that's the case I'm much happier now!
Bugger! Would be lovely to have control over each piece in my PC.
Still, I guess if i get the mix right in the V Drum module it will be fine as one track in cubase.
Thanks very much for taking the time to look into that for me.
Hi Chili,
That's pretty much what I meant and a much better way of asking my question!
Is the only way to record the drums stored in the V Drum module via the stereo out. Seems it is.
Hi Roguetitan,
I was getting the buzz even when plugging direct into the amp. I did notice a hum when using the DI but flicked the ground/lift switch and that went (I still have to find out what ground/lift means!).
Great tip re the refrigerator (or simply fridge as they're known in this part...
