    New songs done on mr-8

mgchicago: I've been tied down to the moods of my computer for three years. The other day I had recorded some nice tracks and POW, my 'F' partition blows out. That's where I would dump my waves after recording them through Sonar. Their gone. Now I have an MR-8, and some other hardware. I...

How do you practice before recording with MR-8?

I just bought my MR-8, Tom. Haven't used it yet, but was looking in the manual and found play back functions on page 49. Not much help, but at least someone answered your question.

    arrrghhhh!!

We all have done some things like that. It's called 'live & learn'. Later, when you've built up a nice collection of 'l & ls' you can refer to them as experience. Even later, once everyone has forgotten your experiences, you can refer to them as someone elses screw up. The camera thing...

    Fostex MR-8 v1.05

How do you find out what version you have. I'm fed up with my computer crashing when I use Sonar, so I just bought a MR-8. The color isn't impressive, to me. Haven't used it yet. Afraid to after the experiences I was subjected to by Sonar. It's funny, I was thinking about nineteen years...

    Hello.....

I remember Frank Zappa saying about the same thing. He also said he kept the junk and would go through it on occasion and use bits and pieces in some of his newer material. The unsuspecting public respects a shaking up now and then. Things get old and there are dips in the ocillescope of life...

System recommendations for rock solid performance

Besides raising the latency as Moskus stated, you might try a few other things I use. I run Win98SE and have no problems at all. Up date your drivers, as already stated, Defrag your drive before recording. Set a permenate Swap File. Have no less than 256 MB of memory. Reboot before...

I got a phone call from an old band member yesterday. Caleb Johnson. He use to write all of our original material. After all these years he's finally been approached by a label, Alligator. He was on a return trip from a tour in Japan and landed at Seatac Airport at Seattle. He called me...

    Posting your songs?

I disagree with you, hybrid. I've written over two hundred songs in the past thirty years. About one hundred and ninety-nine of them need to be rewritten. The other one, I already rewrote. Very few people are gifted with the songwriting ability. I'm not one that is gifted and from your post...

Where do you get your best song ideas

When a burst of creativity strikes somewhere around me, it usually happens when I'm playing my guitar. I'll happen on a new progression or riff and a melody will come to mind right then to add to the music. Usually the lryics follow at that time, or the basics of the lyrics. I usually go back...

    9th and 13th chords on piano/keyboard

jjt. As I said earlier, I'm pretty cherry on a keyboard, but I'm learning. About the left hand right hand arrangment you spoke of concerning keeping the 5th. That's a great tip. I did that but was unaware of what I was doing I guess. Now I can use it and know what I'm doing. Thanks.
