    Compression

The one in question I have 3 different compressors on.. API 2500.. set as 10 to 1 on one.. another api 2500 6 to 1.. then a CLA2A with about 40 on peak reduction and 30 gain

    Compression

Can compressing the crap out of a vocal make it sound lifeless? Trying to determine if it's a problem of performance or mixing. I feel like in some cases I'm really feeling the song and singing the crap out of it, but then people hear it and say it sounds like I don't mean it at all.. I'm...

    Question about singing out

I only got to work with my vocal coach for a very short time (I moved away and honestly I was too shy to sing in front of her). She did help me understand a few things but some stuff I never really got what she was saying and I'm finally starting to put the pieces together on my own. Anyway on...

Feedback on my voice in acoustic cover?

Your voice is great. You can get a vocal coach if you want to try and find any weak areas you have to work on them. Also you need to get singing in front of people. It's going to suck, but do it anyway and work on it. Also joining a band could be a good idea. Gives you some support on stage...

How do I achieve a simular sound to Ed Sheeran

I can almost guarantee that some melodyne is used. I don't know that they even make a record without using some type of pitch correction, no matter how small. There will be exceptions I'm sure but for the most part you can bet it's used. I have watched enough of Ed Sheeran live to know that he...

    Rate my voice + cover

that is insane. The vocal itself is top notch and the mix sound great to my ears. Also it's a great song, you covered it extremely well.

    Rate my voice + cover

Yeah I have to agree there.. The recording is stellar as is the singer. If that is the work of someone who is new, the rest of us need to quit. If it is you, great job. I love that song and the harmonies are done perfectly.

Acid Pro user needs advice on picking a new DAW

Pro Tools is great, once you learn it. Studio One by presonus is pretty good. And if you use their upgrade path to the Pro version it comes with a copy of melodyne. it's also the only DAW I know of that melodyne is integrated in. I don't have to open it and bounce the file out and reimport...

    What's your motivation for recording?

I've always loved music and wanted to sing but never really done it. Starting to record myself was a way to see if I was any good at it. It's grown since then, now I love recording. I enjoy the process. I still love singing but I'm no musician.

    MXL770 or AT2020?

I would read up in the studio building section to understand why it's a bad idea. I am not telling you that you can't make a recording you are happy with in the closet, I am just saying it's easier to make one in a better space. The idea is simple, get the best sound you can on the way in that...

Presonus Studio One entry level $5 today

I use Studio One and am pretty happy with it. It's pretty easy to navigate and understand although once you get into more advanced routing options for your audio it might be more confusing. A friend was showing me his method in Pro Tools and i couldn't figure out exactly how to recreate it. All...

    MXL770 or AT2020?

You will want to stay out of the closet. Everyone thinks it will give a nice reverb but it really just makes the vocal sound boxed in. I don't have experience with either of those mics, I did purchase an AT2035 as my first microphone a while back and was happy with it for the price. Based on...

Who wants to try mix and master my quick freestyle rap vocal?

I would need 2 files one of your voice and one of the music. Can't really do much with 1 file already put together

    Looking for feedback

Listening back now (a few days later) I can hear more of the flaws. It's funny how once you have been listening to something a lot you get used to hearing them I guess and they don't sound like flaws. I will give it another few tries and see if I can do better.

    Looking for feedback

I'll keep at it. Cool suggestions on the reverb and such, I'll have to take a look. There is currently no automation on it. Some compression and little EQ, reverb and delay.

I really need a feedback on my mix

I would. Work on your breathing some and learn to take a breath and use that to steady the notes you are singing. They will sound much better that way. Also work on saying the words clearly
