    virtual or real?

No brainer OK so you have a nice big room AND a good drummer. ALWAYS go for live drums if/when you can! You will learn a lot of valuable info just by trying.

    A Behringer Ballad

Nice one Tim-may!!! But just like most Beri stuff, it sounded OK at first but then the song just stopped working for me.;) I tried tech support but no one ever called me back. Go figure.

Drum heads for 70's soft rock & classic rock music?

LOL!!! Oops, yeah I meant pads not tampons. I always get those two mixed up. Drives my girl crazy when I say tampon instead of pad. Like I said a bad word or something. Whatever.:p

Drum heads for 70's soft rock & classic rock music?

Most of the posts above nailed it. It was also pretty common in the 70s to suck the life out of the drums with muffling. Like a Remo Pinstripe with a tampon taped to the head. Or a paper towel. Whatever you prefer.

Can you really believe the reviews?

I always try to read as many reviews as I can. Sometimes it helps to read between the lines. But you always have to consider the source. For example, a "professional" reviewer would most likely use "pro" standards for testing gear. That means a controlled environment - an acoustically treated...

    Sweetwater Creation Stations

There are many companies offering turnkey solutions built specifically for audio. I suggest you do some research and find out what most others are charging before you decide. Here are just two examples: http://www.shop-sonica.com/?gclid=CNqC9OPUmI8CFSDiQQodL3uhUA http://www.rainrecording.com...

    New bass drum purchase dilemma.

what's wrong with your current bass drum? Forgive me for answering your question with another question, but what's wrong with your current bass drum? It is my opinion that the sound you are looking for is largely determined by the choice of heads, muffling and tuning. (not to mention choice...

Awesome Turn Key Shed from SSL

think about it I'm not a digidesign fan myself, but heck it might be worth it. You know, if they will build it/wire it/tune the room, furnish it ALL for that price - including instruments, A/C, and a few bottles of wine - and it'll only take about a month -- that might just be worth the price.

    Tips for playing swing?

swingin' Awesome posts so far. Especially thinking in triplets! My two cents would be for you to totally focus on getting that swing ride pattern burned into muscle memory and really swinging. Then get the hihat swinging: in 2/4, play the hat with the foot on the 2 -- or in 4/4 play the hits...

    What tune is this?

Thanks guys. I really dig the idea of putting live drums back in the mix with electronic music. It really opens up ideas when woodshedding to these types of songs as opposed to just a click. I love the interplay with accents on the syncopated parts of the beats. I have Winamp on my computer...

    My new drums!

Congrats dude! I can't get the pics to load but I know Mapex Maples are awesome drums! Enjoy!!! As for cymbals - for the ytype of music you play, I think Zildjian As would be better for you than Zs. They sound great recorded too! I say get the "A" pack and call it a day. Free 18" fast crash...

    Snare recording discussion

One more thing I just remembered a big part of the discussion in the beginning was on how each drummer strikes the snare in his/her own way. Where you hit it- dead center for less ring, off to the side, the angle of the stick, how much of the rim you hit on rim shots, etc. We also talked about...

    Snare recording discussion

During a break from some session work last week we got into a long discussion about recording snare drums. It was a group engineers and drummers. I figured I’d pass along some of the things we talked about: Tuning- we all had different ideas about tuning – some like a tight bottom head and...

    What tune is this?

http://www.drummerworld.com/Videos/rolandpeilflogs.html I'm not a huge fan of electronic music but sometimes I'll practice with this type of music instead of a click track b/c it has a tight "four on the floor" and interesting syncopation. Then I saw this video above and I'd really like to...

    man almighty

Hmmm, yeah... must've been a defect in the wood.:D It happens:D. It's interesting how much money you save in sticks, heads and cymbals, not to mention pain pills and doctors fees, when you learn how to strike the drums properly. I remember when I started playing, I was going through sticks...
