okay, I'm well aware that dithering and converting to 16-bit are two different things....
however, since L1 will only add dither, and CEP will take it down to 16-bit... what should I have the "quantize" control in L1 set to? 24 or 16?
see, that's where it gets tricky......
specific settings that work great for me would be, at best, vague for you, and for some things (like compression), the settings would be downright WRONG.
the most I can tell you is to try as many different mics as you can on the singer when you're...
I would definitely stop with the five mics on the guitar amp. phase issues like a bitch, no doubt, and in my experience, any more than three mics (mic on the grill, mic on the back and phase reversed, and a room mic a ways out) is diminishing returns, and just gets ridiculous. you could probably...
Re: Re: YAAAAAAYYYYYY!!!!!!
it's pretty obvious this guy is just spewing sarcasm and intentionally wrong things.......
saying use the BBE to fix anything, saying reverb will make a sound crisper, and that the tube mp is an industry standard.
you almost answered yourself there.
pretty much the two main selling points I can think of on the RNC (besides its ridiculously good value for the money) is its transparency and versatility.
on a side note, the composer pro isn't that bad for the price, it's just if you hit it with too much...
just in case anyone doesn't know, you can get some serious phase issues between the two tracks if you don't add any effects (other than delay) to the second track, since they're both the exact same take.
Third verse, when the harmonies come in.... killer.
just as good is on OK Computer, the last verse of Let Down when that other harmony comes in.... just great double-tracking.
but yeah, I absolutely HATE those pink noise type vocals... I really don't enjoy it when the main part of the song...
I can understand what you mean about the vocals. compared to the ridiculously and unrealistically crisp vocals of pop groups and what not nowadays, it does seem like a rather "dull" sound. but then I realized, that's just how it's supposed to be.
Thom recorded the vocals to Planet Telex on a 58...
make sure the record routing (one of the two little buttons next to the volume and panning boxes) has the mic in on the soundcard selected on the track you're recording to.
for future reference, you should put cool edit questions in the cool edit forum.
wes, it's funny that you mention the bends as one of the more neutral albums...... I actually find it to be fairly trebly, and in very brief isolated incidences, a little on the harsh side. I think OK Computer is a much more natural sounding album, if not a slightly stylized "natural" sound.
just go with the RNC......
when he says "footyprints", he means that you can HEAR the compressor working..... you don't want that for the most part, especially with cheap compressors that leave BAD sounding artifacts.....
the RNC, on the other hand, has very, VERY manageable "footyprints".
pot kettle black is a great song. really, REALLY catchy, and yet quite a genius song as well........
what I've noticed more and more about the drum sound is that most of the time, I'm so busy listening to the songs that I don't really notice the drum sound.
yep, I just listened to "I am trying to break your heart" again, and it's official.... I LOVE the drum sound on that song. when the snare hits..... YOWZA.
see, I really enjoy the drums on songs like "I am Trying to Break Your Heart" when they finally commit to a steady beat (somewhere around the fourth "verse", I think?", and also on "Ashes of American Flags" when they come in on "I'm down on my hands and knees".... there's something about that...
I happen to enjoy the really dry drum sound, simply because the huge "wall of sound" people have been applying to drums lately is finally starting to get on my nerves.
