    What is your Mixing Procedure?

Thanks! So, you two do your panning first, eh? I've heard in the past some people recommend mixing in mono first, in order to catch phase issues. However, I guess this would be during the recording stage more so, since by the mixing stage you can't really do too much.

hey, that's kind of funny since i've used a 990 as an OH and kind of thought that it sounded like the brown album, too. cheers!

you folks are being awfully secretive! i sincerely doubt that telling what order you mix in is going to jeopardize your sound or career. come on!!!! :)

Actually, this rate is for Harvey's studio, not for Harvey. I think his son engineers the sessions.

The Great 96 kHz Debate....all invited!

yeah, whatever. but he is on the run, and an anti-96k-er. here's my thoughts on the debate: why wouldn't you record at 96K if you can? hard drive space is cheap, man. and so what if it may sound slightly worse on CD, it is gonna sound way better on DVD-A or SACD.

    M-S Stereo recording for Drums

M-S in in theory a very elegant technique. Is it ever used for drums? Everyone seems to use X-Y or two separate mics for stereo OHs, but wouldn't M-S be good also?

wow! holy cheap rent! i think hourly seems fair. as for the "see how it turns out," that seems like a bad idea. surely you must have discussed some ballpark number or something. alternatively, i was on harvey gerst's site today, and he charges a $350 flat rate for each song- mixing...

    Vocals: Live, like Neil Young??

Yeah. But the transient response of condensers is much greater, no? Maybe I should be brushing up on the big thread... :D

A new way to mic drums

NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and i doubt it will hurt them- 58's never break.

    Vocals: Live, like Neil Young??

Thanks for the response. They were in the studio, yes, but I don't think he had baffles or anything. Looks from the pics like they're all standing around ina circle, kind of thing. Yes, bleed is good, but wouldn't the instruments be just too damn loud? Like, too loud to get the vocals loud...

A new way to mic drums

yeah, i can see the threads now... "Best drumstick mic under $100??" "Poll: Neumann or Drumstick mic?" "Good Drumstick Mic for Vocals and Acoustic Guitar?" etc. Anyhow, you totally could drum with two sm58s! somebody give it a try and post the results- I'm begging!!!! :D:D

    Vocals: Live, like Neil Young??

bbbump ok, maybe i was a bit long winded before. here's a rephrasing; Could you record a vocal track live with a band, in the same room together, and use a condeser mic? Even if it was cardiod, wouldn't you get too much bleed to isolate the vocals?

    Vocal Questions

Could it be that your vocal just isn't in time with your acoustic track the way that it would be if you recorded both at once? In fact, if you're just recording your voice and acoustic, why not do them both at once? Just use a dynamic on your vocals, I would say, and then use the condenser for...

A new way to mic drums

lol. that's doable! someone with two 58's should try it and post the results. the mics could handle that, just play quiet. i'd do it but, i only have one 58. come on!!!!!
