    Hey actual Echo hardware users...

Uh oh, no users. That's a bad sign. :( Plus now I'm talking to myself.

    It just cracks me up....

But Blue Bear, recent advances in vintage processing technology have brought that vintage sound to today's budget analog. Modern technology gives today's low-cost analog devices a much more vintage sound than that crappy old high-end analog gear! ;)

Reviews and Bias - Is there another motive?

I used to write reviews for a website that sold board games (now you know what a big nerd I am :(), and perhaps this is a load of B.S., but this is what my editor had to say about bad reviews: they don't accomplish anything. If you are searching for a product, and you read a good review, and...

    Hey actual Echo hardware users...

After a long time wasted trying to get my issues resolved, I have two questions: 1. Does anybody actually use a Layla EXP? A search for Layla EXP on this BBS brings up a few posts where ppl point out it's existence, but nobody actually says they use it (except for me, when I point out the...

    pet peeves

I hate the elitist music store clerks who get that "OMG, you're shit, you know absolutely nothing!" attitude when I want to talk about any piece of gear other than the absolute most expensive professional model available.

    Desktop vs Laptop

Re: HEy Ummmm...you'd have to check the requirements of whatever hardware and software you plan to use. For example, if you wanted to use an Echo Layla Laptop with Cool Edit Pro, you'd have to look at the hardware requirements for the Layla found in the manual, available for download from...

    Desktop vs Laptop

I record on a laptop, so maybe I can offer some insight. I would recommend staying away from USB devices, just because it is the most limited connection to your PC. There are other options though: Firewire (such as the MOTU 828/896) and PCMCIA (Echo Mona/Layla, RME Hammerfall). It is true...

    firewire vs. PCI

Firewire is supposed to be standard, but everything doesn't always work the way it should. From the Motu website: Be sure that if you choose a firewire interface, you get one that is compatible with your computer. Another firewire consideration is that there is a limited amount of bandwidth...

    This Forum Needs More Threads

Shackrock, I think you're right about combining the tracks on a bus and then applying the effects. I'm not certain about this, but I'm basing this on the fact that my computer keeps up with mixing a lot better if I apply an effect to a bus of 4 tracks than if I apply it to each of the 4 tracks...

    chris wants more threads

Are you making this more complicated than it should be? When I'm recording, I name each track in the multi-track view before I start actual recording, as I'm plugging in inputs, with names such as "Vox - Bob", "Vox - Ken", and "Bass". Then I usually File...Save Session As and create a folder...

    echo layla 24 question

    1) Is your adapter stereo or mono? You should get both speakers using the headphone jack if you're using a stereo adapter. 2) Are you sure you have signal going to both the left and right? When you look in your Echo Console while playing back, do you see signal on both the left and right?

Should I Buy an Echo Layla?

You can't use ADAT and S/PDIF at the same time -- only one set of digital ins can be used at a time, although you can use the analog ins at the same time. Other than my recent problem combining the Mona and the Layla EXP, I've been very happy with the Echo audio products. If you don't need to...

Warning: Mona + Layla EXP = bad news

Well, I'm pretty peeved at Echo right now, so to prevent anyone else from running into this problem, I thought I'd give a heads up to anyone who might be interested in adding a Layla EXP to a Mona: all 8 channels on the Layla EXP will not work correctly. Specifically, any time there's signal...

    Echo layla 24/96 v.s M-Audio Delta 1010

I'm going to put in a vote for the Layla, but I'm like everyone else: voting for the one I have because I've never tried the other. :) At least that must give you some confidence that whichever you pick, you won't have made a terrible choice. A couple of things I like/don't like about it...

    Monitor Investmenting, help!

Here's how I like to shop for gear: Step 1 is to go to http://www.8thstreet.com, select the type of gear I'm looking for, and click on the button to sort by price. I write down a few models that are in my price range. Step 2 is to come here and click on the Search button. I type in one...

PCI - PCMCIA adapter card for laptop Layla24?

Why not just buy the PCI version of the Layla, and purchase the PCMIA card which is available seperately?

I got coolpro 2.0 nya nya nya nyanya

There's a checkbox on that dialogue that says "View all settings in decibals." Uncheck that box and you'll be back to %. That is weird. I haven't had a problem with Easy CD Creator not recognizing my wav files from CEP2. In the Save As dialogue, there are several file types with an...

    Musician's Guide to Home Recording

I checked my book, which was printed in 1996, and I didn't find the offer. :( I did find a blurb that said support for this book and previous editions of this book, including sound files, could be found on AOL using keyword "Andertons".

    Musician's Guide to Home Recording

I have a copy of this book that I bought about a month and a half ago, and I don't recall any such offer. However, I don't have the book with me at the moment, so I may have to correct myself tomorrow after checking the book when I get home tonight.

Help a newbie make a decent recording please

Here is a fine example of just how ignorant the average layperson is: I have been asked by my uncle to make a recording of his band to make some homemade CDs. (Apparantly I'm qualified to do this since I know how to record from cassette tapes or vinyl to my computer, clean out hissing and...
