    whats wrong with your recordings seems like a obvious question.... that being said an akg414 is a well respected vocal/oh/anything microphone. what about a "tooob' microphone appeals to you?

    additionally the kick drum sounds a bit like a tom thats been tuned to high, it may work for jazzy stuff but for the beats your playing it need to be much lower dont worry, you should hear the first drums i recorded:eek:

    its actually a harmoniser in her vocal fx box, she played in 4-5 note chords and it could only harmonise 3 i think so it chose randomly. cant remember where i read that, but thats it. edit: i do, it was on a tv show about that album on bbc3

    recording book wishlist

    bob katz's mastering audio is a good read, but possibly get it from a library for a while rather than buy it (ive only read my copy fully two times) you could look at "mix it like a record", its got a great reputation and if youve got a form of protools its especially useful

    good music :) i would guess buying an entry level recording soundcard (maudio, behringer, presonous) and some monitors would sort you out a LOT. i have to point out that taking a mono output and putting it on a stereo track is doing nothing.

    recording noisey drummers

    Well, honestly it sounds like te drums are 10m behind the band who are 10m away already. How did you mic this and how good is the isolation? To be honest the sounds sound okay, just far away. Brightening them up and some good compression will bring them forward a little
