    Dubstep/Electro

Hi Antidote Bear (bare?) in mind that is from a moldy forty something who's first thought when seeing this thread was 'what's dub step?', can't read text messages, and doesn't know whether is's bear or bare. A very good if you've just started. Too me a little muddy (this stood out when the...

Critque on my band's first song?

have to agree with most of the previous comments. A very good start. I think the production style suits the style of the song. Vox definitley need to be higher. Very good on the drums for 2 SM5s7. I use four mics for drums and it's still bloody hard work. High hat, possibly a little bit too much...

    Cheeky Reqest

Thanks Jimmy. Glad you thought it was a good song. It's quite an old, one I originialy wrote way back in '82 when I was 16. I've embellished it somewhat, but I've ressurected some of my songs from that period to practice my recording/mixing. I've not been playing the drums that long (although...

Here is the full version of the song. There was a middle section but I don't think it worked.

New at this no idea what im doing :(

It's definitely an improvement. Picking up on Triple M's comment regarding the guitars (I'm not a thrash expert) but I understand they often layer guitars with low end and then guitars with more high end over the top and often a layer with a cleaner sound.

    Opinions on a tune

I must have clicked on the lo-fi link at first. With the fretless bass and the accordian in reminded me of the Northern Exposure theme. The drum loop's quite unusual, at first I wondered if the loop points where wrong or if it was in an odd time signature, but I think it works well now I hear...

Although I've played lead guitar in bands I see myself as a bass player so I always listen for some bass. Maybe I should have been listening to the song rather than the production. On second listen it's a good song, I like the hook, performed with passion and feeling. In fact the sparse...

I like. Very early 70s retro feel. There's nothing i would change.

My demo for people to learn songs to

I really like your stuff. It's very refreshing. I read your blurb on your page and I like your philosophy. I don't like too much polish, but I don't have enough attitude to do what you do, so I resort to layering, editing and retracking. I think if you start using triggers and doing too much...

    New Seconds To September Song

Hi The vocals in the left channel around 0:50 sounded a little harsh. Like the harmony guitars around the 2:00 mark. The distorted vocal idea works, but those bits could have done with a bit of EQ cut to make them a bit thinner and make the effect stand out a bit more, the change is quite...

Hi Guitar Legend Didn't mind the bass drum mounted tambourine (that was a new one for me). I couldn't really hear the bass drum though. Would have liked the bass guiitar to be a bit less muddy and more prominent. The guitar in the centre had a bit too much plectrum sound, it came across almost...

    Need honest, brutal criticism

HI rehanato. The bass seems a bit boomy. I Like a bit of crunchy top end (around 4 - 6k)hzand a narrower boost doen the bottom (around 90hz - 100hz). Liked the guitar solo.

Digital - you should listen to this !!!

I was going to criticise the vocal effects... then listened to the lyrics and realised that was the point  Excellent, good writing, good production, good performance. I would say that the drums are a little too compressed, but then I think that about nearly everything I hear on here...

    Cheeky Reqest

Thanks for the feedback guys. And thanks to Jimmy for the offer to retune the originals. Heatmiser - unfortunately the VS doesn't have the feature, but thanks for trying. Steemaroo - this is the first part of the song, it was recorded in 3 parts (the middle bit is a bit self indulgant). I've...

    Recollection

Without sound like a cliche, that was kick ass. Loved it. I didn't notice the effect you where talking about until about 2 minutes, then changes at 2:24, 2:40. It was effective, subtle but very effective, adds interest without detracting. Excellent. Great playing.

I'm not dead! Vomit Hat Steve's back with a new song!

This is the first of your stuff I've heard. There are a lot of sounds that normaly I would say are 'wrong', but it seems all seems to work. I like it.

    Cheeky Reqest

Just done some research on the internet and apparently some recorders are not tuned to A=440hz. I've rerecorded the recorders with the sample rate lower to compensate. Would appreciate it if you could have another listen (I know it sounds a bit like elves dancing in a wood). Many thanks

New at this no idea what im doing :(

I'm not a thrash metal fan (I've probably embarresed myself there by picking the wrong genre, apologies if I have ( I am getting on a bit)). The guitars I like because it reminds me of early sabbath. For me the bass is not defined enough. For me I like to give a bit of boost around 90hz and then...

    Cheeky Reqest

Thanks for the offer Jimmy. Not sure when I'll get it done, I use a Roand VS which doesn't have a simple export to wav function, but I'm sure I'll think of a way around it.

    New toon from The Jongleurs

Hi Armistice Sounds good to me. Drums maybe a little compressed for my liking and could have been brought forward more, especially the snare. In line with your last request, maybe a boost around 3-4 khz region to pick out the snare ;). I would maybe have put a little more reverb on the backing...
