    What are these sounds?

I can't answer the wallflowers one but I can answer the beastie boys question. If I'm not mistaken, its more than likely an old Korg BX3 organ, run through a rotory speaker. I'm pretty sure they used that organ throughout the "check your head" album

Please Help I am a newbie

The best I can say, Daft Punk-wise... you'll defintely need a beat box, something like a Roland Groovebox, or a Kord Electribe Module (EA-1 and ER-1 in particular), maybe a basic synth, something like a Yamaha CS1x 2x or 6x.... what's you budget like?

Please Help I am a newbie

Its called a vocoder. There are several out there on the market now if I am correct, one of the coolest ones is the Electrix vocoder, I'm thinking they don't make them anylonger, but you can find them on ebay. if you are into DIY the company Paia makes a cool kit that sounds pretty good. The...

    Akg D112

hey thanks for the info! Actually I guess the closest thing I can think of for a similar sound is the way tool's kick sounds... though what I'll be doing sounds nothing like tool, I love the way the kick feels in tool albums, it just was a great punch to it.

I need a really good mic for recording a kick bass drum, is anyone familiar with the D112, and if so is it good... not so good? Or if anyone has a better suggestion, I'd love to hear it.

    color coordinated quest

yeah, I'd suggest pricewatch as well... especially if you are looking for a good deal on RAM... (though, if you look for black CDRWs, harddrive.com will come up quite a bit)

    color coordinated quest

check out www.harddrive.com they have a lot to offer in black components (one of the largest selections I've see, and they're local for me!). I filled up my black 4U server case with all sorts of great stuff I got from them.

    color coordinated quest

That's very true and it sucks... I've been on the lookout for a black CDRW, and I constantly see the black versions going anywhere from $20 to $90 more that their beige counterparts...

    Synth Groove Boxes

At first I hated them all.. I kinda looked at them as canned music. But a firend of mine (who is actually talented) kinda opened my eyes to the MC505. Its a nifty little box once you get rid of all the presets, which is what I do with all of my synth gear anyhow as soon as I get it. you can...

    So long Alesis!!

I got curious today and drove straight to GC after work... I took the HDR24 for a test drive... (though the GC people seem to be complete retards, and I ended up giving my own demo) It sounded pretty nice, and was extremely easy to use.... makes me look at that MD a bit harder...

    Fostex Vm200 Mixer W/digitech S100

I took a peak at the manual... unfortunately it looks like your inserts are going to be about the only way to use any external effects. since you say that you have a send/return cable. connect the single end to whichever insert jack on the mixer. with the 'Y' end connect the 'tip' (send) to the...

    So long Alesis!!

Found it This was in the march issue of Mix concerning the cards for the HDR24, though I'm pretty sure the MD uses the same. "The $450 DIO-8 card includes eight channels of digital I/O in both Tascam TDIF and ADAT Lightpipe formats, as well as a TDIF wordclock sync output on a BNC connector...

    So long Alesis!!

I read somewhere, a while back (don't ask me where, I'll have to look) that the standard lightpipe cards were $99, then they also had another lightpipe card with TDIF as well for like $450

    So long Alesis!!

I'll root for alesis to come back, my adats have always done well by me... and I want to keep using 'em. This may very well be the nail in their coffin, but ya never know (secretly, I'm looking pretty hard at this mackie unit) By the way, I just read on Mackie's site, that the $1999 price is...
