    THIS bass sound

Lots of bands use miced bass, lots use DI. What are you trying to say? Lots use Marshall, lots use Fenders. I know it may shock some people, but bands and producers have PREFERENCES not LAWS.

How Detrimental is THIS signal path?

You can actually run XLR pretty far without degrading the signal...as long as they're good quality cables. Keeping it short as possible is best, but you can get away with pretty long runs...probably 3x as long as instrument cables.

I'll agree 100% with very few having good tone! I'm mostly in the "indie" / "alt country" / "pretentious assholes" / whatever who knows shows. Old fenders and ridiculous Booteek amps are it right now. Nobody digs marshalls anymore. When I bust out the JTM 45 people love it, but they dis...

My friend's LP Studio guitar fell off the stand

this is why i've never owned a stand. lean it. leave it in the case.

I agree with everything Greg said except for every modern guitarist having a multi channel amp. Most I know have a one channel amp and pedals for all the OD stuff live. In the studio it's the same just cranking the amps for some of the OD sounds.

How do I adjust two mics on Acoustic Guitar

The techiniques RollTape showed pictures for are great...pretty much the standards. But one thing I would caution is that just because your mics match the pictures doesn't mean they'll sound good. You will have to move them around to get the right balance of sound and keep the cancelation to a...

    THIS bass sound

I know a number of pretty big bands that have the option to mic and still DI the bass. I really like a DIed bass through a distorting Neve style pre. It sits in the mix perfectly and is clear. Micing is good too. For me personally, I'm not a bass player and don't have a bass amp. So that...

How do you achieve tempo changes?

What DAW are you using? I use reaper and it's just a matter of highlighting a section and changing the tempo for that section. I'm sure other DAWs have a similar way of making selections and changing parameters for the selection. EZdrummer know what's up. Also, if you are playing the beat...

Guitar Stand "Gate" (rubber used as gate on holder)

of all the guitar gadgets I have, and all the years playing and doing shows, a stand is the one thing I have never owned. I've always thought "the next thing I'm gonna get is a guitar stand", but then I don't.

Check this out...he doesn't even know what guitar he plays one each song...he has to have his tech tell him. Not dissing the Edge...I like him...but his rig is tremendous. U2's The Edge demonstrating his guitar rig (1/2) - YouTube

Also, for recording, you don't have to worry about quick switching, you can just set the amp/pedals however you want. For live, it might just be simpler and definitely cheaper to grab a few pedals, plug into the clean or crunch channel and get all your sounds from there. Trust me, almost...

    I want!!!!

back to pedals...I have a lot because 1) I love building them and experimenting with sounds, and 2) the let me recreate whatever sound I have in my head. So it's not just for nailing cover sounds, its for nailing the tone you hear in your head.

    I want!!!!

I saw an interview with Jeff Tweedy from Wilco (my all time favorite band), and he said he likes not having any "hit songs" because he doesn't have to play "Born in the USA" every night for the rest of his life. Makes sense...if you're playing 150+ shows a year it would get super boring having...

Well to engage a certain set of pedals with one click (i.e. an OD, delay and Vibrato or something like that), you can just get a looper and put the ones you want in one loop. As for changing the amps channel from the same loop, I'm not sure how that would work. The best I can come up with is...

    I want!!!!

There's a really good 80s cover band here in Long Beach. They play pretty much everything exactly as it's played on the albums. But, most other copy and paste cover bands bore me.

that flashback is pretty cool. i like it a lot. you can use the TS as a really nice boost. i have one set with the drive pretty low for certain lead/solo parts. same thing with the RAT, but I kinda like the lofi sound of the rat pushing a slightly crunchy amp. i don't think pedals are just...

Tips on playing guitar in the cold weather?

those stupid space heaters cost more to run than the whole house furnace. I had a roommate who ran one all night in his cold room and drove our electricity bill through the roof.

    I want!!!!

I build a from scratch. I started with using schematics I could find on the internet...and that's still what I mostly do (you'd be amazed what's out there, pretty much everything). Over time I've tested components and values and have some really nice mods for standard schematics, or used...
