I like to start with drums and bass, the rhythmic foundation, and then bring in other elements.. vocals last.
honestly though, it does depend on the music. sometimes I just dive in with all faders up around -18dB

parallel compression is good for retaining some of the dynamic range of the original recording, but you'll get a fader to blend a very compressed signal in with the dry signal.
Yeah the audio compression definitely changes between 360/480/720..
even if it's one of those lousy slideshow videos, always opt for highest resolution.
There is something to be said about charging what you think you're truly worth. this article is slightly pessimistic but discusses things to consider when setting studio rates.
Why the all or nothing answer though?
There are many variables involved:
-garden level?
-corner unit?
-good construction?
I don't feel like a mix room w/ speakers that hit 58hz should be so prone to complaints. I also don't feel that mixing always has to be that loud either.
I mixed and...
Hi -
I am currently looking for an apartment, and want to set up a decent mix room.
I am wondering what you guys would look for in a space.
I have 6 panels of 2" OC-703 and Genelec 8030a's.
I'm looking for a studio apt. or a 1 bedroom. I don't have very much furniture. Would it be better...
Wondering what one or some of your memorable "ah-ha" moments have been in your personal evolution & studies as a mixing/recording engineer.
Was there something you did, or something someone showed you that just set off that light bulb, or put you on the right track, changing the way you...
compressor settings should absolutely vary depending on the input source.
If what you're going for is transparent sounding compression, you want to match the envelope of the audio with your compressors attack and release times to avoid distortion.
but honestly, if the harmonic/envelope...
If you have the inputs to spare you might as well capture both signals.
It is the most flexible with many options. You can do any kind of treatment you want to the direct signal, and even use amp simulators, and even blend the mic'd and direct signal together.
Blending seems to yield...
Mainly make beats and record 1 or 2 channels of audio (vox, bass sometimes synth audio.. usually midi with Nexus, Omnisphere, Rapture etc)
Macbook Pro
Neaumann TLM-103
Saffire Pro 24
Logic 9

Melodyne/Auto-Tune
Roland V-Drums >> BFD
There are many things you can do... Here are a couple:
If the vocalist is capable of doing tight natural doubles/harmonies, that's great to have as an option in your mix. Maybe leave the doubles in the center and pan the harmonies out.
You can record harmonies or even make your own faux...
Hi -
I'm looking to start recording Logic 9 video tutorials for my YouTube channel, and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience using video screencast software on a Mac?
I've heard Screenflow is quite nice, but just wanted to get a second opinion.
Thanks,
Dan
