Presonus Firepod + which mic for rap?

#2. Because you are probably looking not to spend a suitcase full of money. If you have a couple grand for a mic, go with a condenser, and get the much cheaper dynamic for a backup. Also, why do you have a firepod if you're doing rap? Wouldn't you only need at most a couple inputs at once?

    Question about close micing techniques...

Less speakers might give less phase cancellation. I've found smaller cabs easier to record.

    Mastering Limiters?

How does the plugin compare to doing it on your hardware converters? Also, have you tried gclip against Voxengo Elephant 2, which also has a clipping algorithm as well as limiting algos? PS. Can't wait for V2 of the slate samples. I've used them on at least 1 drum in every project since I got...

    am i hitting -18dbfs

You are getting 2 conflicting sets of views. If you are peaking between -18 and -12 you are fine. -Timedog

    am i hitting -18dbfs

the first value you are seeing is peak, rms is kind of like an "average" level, and it's probably including the periods of silence on the track. Your levels seem fine if they are peaking at -12dbfs. -Timedog

    Firepod Drums!

I definitely wouldn't say bricks are no problem at all. Especially on the low end. The absorption coeffecient for brick is horridly low pretty much throughout the frequency spectrum though. In a well designed, larger room this could be a good thing for drums, you get a lot of reflection for a...

    Firepod Drums!

Bricks.....not a good idea. No absorption, and low transmission of sound through the wall. All sound goes right back into the room. -Timedog

New Song From an ambitious 17 year old...

What is your obsession with your age? The vocals kinda make me cringe. Stop trying to sound emo. Just work on your playing. -Timedog

    Phase Cancellation

I meant when tracking. And when mixing too if using 2". Most people mixing digitally don't time align. The comparison to the 44.1 thread is not analogous. You still haven't explained away any of the arguments/reasoning I put forth. The mp3 has no basis with which to compare it to, so it is...

    Phase Cancellation

I am not simply talking about the "attacks" of the drums, you also have to think about how sound bounces around in the room, and how that relates to localization of the recorded elements. Professional recordings have many attacks as well, it's impossible not to. I have found that moving things...

    Phase Cancellation

What I'm saying is that doing this screws with the phase of other things besides what you're trying to time align, since every mic is picking up every drum/cymbal to some degree. -Timedog

    Cubase SX3 + Dual/Quad core?

To the negative rep guy, go to the link in my sig and listen to "walla walla sweets" it uses 51 tracks. About 40 or so audio tracks and the rest bussing and FX tracks. The song "I'm not Well" also uses close to 50 tracks also. The highest track count I've had was 57, another song by the same...

    Last Lost Letters

I like it a lot. If it were me i'd cut down the space/reverby stuff a little on those guitars. Maybe do that and then to compensate make the string stuff more spacy and sit further back in the mix.

    Firepod?

Is there a lot of noise or distortion added when you boost it up that high?? If not, than the position of the knob means absolutely nothing.
