Hello, I'm using X3 Producer and I have always done strictly audio recording in the past. If all I want to do is create MIDI tracks for drums and synth, what equipment do I need? Or can I do what I need with X3? I currently have an on board sound card but not sure what I need. I know very...
I'm building a new PC and using Sonar Producer 8.5. My current studio machine is using the old Aarvark Direct Pro Q10 (2 units). I want to upgrade to something similar or better as a multiple input interface. Any suggestions? I would like 16 input, but will settle for 8 that can be added to later.
I've found the latest OS that will work is XP with SP2 (no updates after SP2). Even with this configuration some things will flake out and require a reboot. I think the problem is getting drivers for the device that are newer. They went out of business a while ago.
Could you give me any details or steps to do it? I have yet to see someone explain what comes after the quantize step. I know it crashes out sonar by leaving audiosnap on and trying to listen to the tracks. How do you make the changes permanent so audiosnap can be turned off?
I have about 12 drum tracks (audio) and the drummer messed up a section but came back to the time signature. This sounded like exactly what audiosnap should be useful for. A lot of the audiosnap videos I've watched do way more than I need to do. Is there a simple example/explanation out there...
I support legitimate software for the following reasons:
1. You don't need to worry about getting hit with a $250,000 piracy fine.
2. If you have a problem, tech support will help you.
3. You are supporting the maker of the software, updates, and bug fixes.
4. Usually upgrading is drastically...
Mastering my own
I master my own now. It wasn't always that way though. Until you get a handle on the difference between mixing and mastering, I would send it out to another studio that specializes in mastering. And I currently do my mixes as if I would be sending it out to be mastered, even...
Since everything I do is digital, my resulting mix always ends up peaking at 0db. This would be ok to hand off to mastering as long as I don't do any compression or EQ on the main output? Also, what about normalizing?
I was curious about this topic
Ok, tell me if this is ok
Usually the only thing I don't us some kind of compression on is drum overheads and possibly hi hat. I use compression on each drum and put all the drums on a sub. I do a mix on the entire kit by soloing the sub. I add a complete mix...
Omnifex pic
Ok, here's the pic. Yea, they didn't sound so good when I plugged them in and compared them to some other mics. I think they might be ok on cymbals because they lack the low end.
I found several of these hiding in a brief case and wondered if they are comparable to anything. What would they be good to record? Omnifex OM658 Dynamic 500 Ohm
Here's Another Guide
Here's another guide for determining what services can be disabled. It's aimed at better performance for gaming, but this still applies to doing whatever you want faster. I would say don't disable anything dealing with audio though...
Inexpensive Starting
Ok, this is about as low budget as possible. For recording you will only have your PC sound card (built into the motherboard in most cases now). You might check out a program called N-Track for the PC ( http://www.ntrack.com ). The guy has been adding to the program for...
Many times people that are new to recording don't understand how to get the volumes to mix properly so that you can consistently hear vocals in the mix. This is done by using a compressor. It doesn't have to be recorded with a compressor, but it should be used in mixing the vocal track with your...
Massive Master is right. If you can't hear it, it can't be mixed or mastered properly. I do have a low budget answer for you though. Use a combination of every sound system you have available. It's not too practical, but listen on everything from a boom box to headphones to your car. Go back and...
Rumble
You might have actual sound in the upper and lower frequency range that works fine in WAV but MP3 is a lossy format that may be amplifying bad things when converting. There are more available frequencies in the WAV file and less in the MP3. This depends on how low you go on the MP3 bit...
