    Headphones for monitoring(Sony MDR-V600

Being a dumb, lo-fi, strictly un-Brian Eno-esque, non-Mike Oldfield listenin', Jarre detesting hobby musician, I use the AKG 240 Monitor headphones. And they work. They might not pick up the resonant difference between mouse farts of different nationalities, but they work just peachy dandy...

    acid recording

Sounds like my own, current no-fi adventures, kabudokan. Do you record vocals/other stuff in ACID, too? People object like crazy when i suggest using it as a plain ol' multitracker in addition to looping. The "professional" aspect, you know. - Bobsleigh

    From bedroom to stage issue

Need the lowdown on samplers, MIDI and sound modules... I have some trouble figuring out how to bring my tunes to life outside the computer. Right now I'm just using a MIDI controller hooked up to the sound card on my computer, but I'd like to bring some of those sounds with me to band...

    GERMAN SOFTWARE (MIDI etc...)

Here's my one cent: Don't know much about laptops, but I guess the specs won't be that different from a normal PC. You'd like a lot of RAM, at least 128 megabytes. You can get away with a pentium II 340, sure. The P3 will give you a lower lag between pressing the keyboard and the sound being...

    mixer and process

Knobs do a lot of stuff. - I'm not gonna tell you about the one labeled VOLUME. - Some, maybe labeled HI, MID, and LO, is your EQ. You twist them to get more bass, reduce noise, etc. It's basically about adjusting the sound to suit your taste and style of music. - Then there might be some...

    SB Live question

Basically, the OEM and the Platinum Live! is the exact same sound card. Difference is that the OEM comes without the S/PDIF, and has cheapo looking color codes on the back. And sure, the Live Drive. Which you don't really need unless you're lazy and can't stand crawling behind your PC once in a...

    Native Instruments Pro52 & DiamondMonsterMX-400 soundcards

Usually, you'd like some drums or bass to play along with while tracking, right? Does the APS driver enable you to playback these on a separate channel, so that you don't re-record them with the synth on top? (enabling you to add the synth as a new track in a multitrack editor?) Talking...

Now here's one for the puzzle solvers

The direct cable won't work. I get the general idea, but the problem is, the line out won't just give me the synth sounds, but everything else on top! I'd re-record all the backing tracks plus the synth on, and I'd really like to have the synth in a separate track. Nice thought, though. As...

Now here's one for the puzzle solvers

I need some help with my no-budget, newbie home studio... When using MIDI to toy around with non-VST soft synth such as Sim Synth, Reality, etc., is there any way to record the output as .wav files in a sequencer? Specifically, I'm using SF Acid (yeah yeah, audio freaks, i know) and a SB Live...

    acid recording

A probable reason: Unless your guitar play is EXTREMELY accurate, you will never be able to play completely in sync with the selected BPM. Hence, ACID will stretch your loop to that BPM, causing what sounds like a delay effect. Editing the loop won't help much; it's still not perfectly in sync...

    Gear advice desperately needed

Thanks Jim! REALLY appreciate your answer. I generally only lay down one track at a time, so that shouldn't be a problem. Since Turtle Beach cards are generally hard to come by in my parts, that also speaks for the SB Live. It's just me, my guitar, an organ and boxes of various colors and...

    Gear advice desperately needed

I'm a bit of a newbie:-) (and a broke student). I desperately need some gear recommendations/tips for my planned BUDGET setup. I use it for HD recording, ACID, Cakewalk and so on. Here goes: - Is there any point in using a SB LIVE! card? If so, will I benefit at all from buying the Platinum...
