I try to convert the audio the least amount of times possible. I usually the first bounce is the mixdown, and the second bounce is the mastered track.
Instead of bouncing to .wma, why not just bounce to the standard 44.1/16 WAV, and you can burn that directly without having to worry about any...
LOL, glad you liked it! I can tell you the BGV's were tough. I tried to hide the autotune as much as possible. The guys were wiped out when we recorded it. In fact, weird story, but true (I'll try to keep it short...).
The guys were in town to play a show on a Friday night a while back, and...
Sounds good!
Hey these tracks sound good. That signal chain is sounding nice on your vocal. I'm a fan of the UA LA-610 myself. Nice west coast swaggard, performance is good, and the adlibs are nice and tight timing and sonically.
I do have some issues with the beats a bit though. Some of...
Sounds like a fun project! My choice would probably be to use the pair of groove tubes on the guitar in an XY pattern, the NTK on the vocal, SM57 on the violin, and the ribbon on the cello. I would normally like 2 mics on each of the strings, but if that's not possible then you'll have to make...
Adapt and overcome...
Hey man... If you can't stand up you can do a couple of things to help promote good airflow, and maintain the level of energy you need to put out a good performance. Here are a couple suggestions.
1) Use a hardback chair so you don't get lazy and sit back in chill mode...
Hey guys, here's another one I've just finished the first mix on. It's a local church group called Total Grace. The recording conditions were not optimal, as we have a "hybrid" track here. We recorded the band and choir live in the church, and came in the studio and overdubbed all vocals, and...
Have you checked any of your protools session backup files? I know mine autosaves a backup every 15 minutes or so. It might be worth looking into. If it's in a backup session, you can just import the data that is missing into your current session. Sorry if I stated the obvious.
Agreed... I can usually get the sound I'm looking for by using 2 mics, one on, and one off axis. Just gotta play around with the placement for a minute with headphones on, amp turned up to the appropriate volume, and the guitar player playing his part. Once the guitar player is jammin I throw...
I've got the master track going through a multi-band compressor and a limiter at -0.1dB. What are you hearing that needs to be compressed? I do have a side-chained "ducker" setup on the guitar tracks being fed from a send on the vocal track, to make room for the vocals... It's being...
Thanks Chili! Much appreciated! As far as the Acoustic micing goes.. I went to the Nashville Recording Workshop this past summer, and took an acoustic micing seminar from Rich Adler. He went over a little bit about mic selection and mic placement. On this particular recording, I opted for a...
I know that Cubase5 runs on vista 64bit, but not sure about XP. I would stick with an Intel Quad Core, and DDR2 or DDR3 ram, start with 4GB and work from there. Make sure you purchase a motherboard with a fast front side bus (FSB) of 1333Mhz minimum. Run a PCI express video card as it has...
Sure, why not? Just make sure if you do buy used, and locally that you can check it out and test it before purchasing. Make sure you get the manual, firewire cable and disk that comes with it. Make sure you test all of the pre-amps and make sure that you can get signal from a microphone from...
Here's a track by a local singer, Katie Bestie and guitar player, Jay Johnson. We recorded this live in the live room & vocal booth, with one take of BGV's.
Do you think there is too much verb on the vox?
Comments, critique, and snide remarks are welcome...
I foresee plenty of head smashing, and hair pulling in your future :) Just be willing to do some research on your own, and ask educated questions here to the best of your ability, and we'll try and help fill in the blanks!
Is it a high pitched hum, like ground noise? Or is it more like a low level hum from the road or possibly utilities in or around the area like air conditioning, refrigerator, etc?
If it is a ground noise, and you do not have a DI box, or you are not able to isolate the issue.. I have on rare...
