    drum programming with real sounds???

I had the same frustrating experience. The sounds in my Boss DR-660 just sounded too dated and artificial for what I was doing (straight ahead rock and power pop). So I bought a CD with acoustic drum samples from various kits on ebay. The collection is called betamonkey and it cost about 20...

    Almost there.....maybe....have a listen!!!

I agree with Jake's comments - the guitars are a bit buzzy and harsh in the high frequencies and the vocals can use a boost. But dude, it sounds good, you've done a nice job here. The drums and bass sound great and the song is very good. Make some subtle tweaks and I think you've got a winner.

    Peavey Patriot

The guitarist in my band has a Patriot that I've knocked around on sometimes. I even used it on a recording session, but ended up re-recording the part on a early '70's P-Bass. It's definately a good quality instrument that can yield some very convicing P-Bass tones. As for dating, did you...

Got GAS for a new Rickenbacker 4003 bass - any opinions?

They come shipped with roundwounds, but I wouldn't hesitate to slap a set of flats on it.

Got GAS for a new Rickenbacker 4003 bass - any opinions?

I tried a Fireglow model at my local music store and the thing was just gorgeous. I know it's not everyone's cup-a-tea, but it played and sounded great. I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with the more recent models - any potential pitfalls. I've heard that the neck is prone to...

    Another Metal Tune

Holy Shite! I feel like I just got thrown down 3 flights of stairs! Fretboard Acrobat is an understatement.....

Wrote a song and recorded it in a day

Nice acoustic guitar tones - a little bright and hot in the mix, though. Electric part plays nicely against the acoustic, but I wouldn't mind hearing a bit of delay for some more sonic texture. Vocal is recorded well, but there's some pitch problems, particularly in the chorus on the words...

Working Hard & Wanting some ideas!

I agree with the rest of the comments for Little Miss Nowhere - the acoustic guitars sounded a bit distant and out of phase. A little compression will allow you to bring it up in the mix without it overpowering the vocals. I wasn't too crazy about the song as it tended to ramble on a bit...

All Voices And Instruments By Christian.

Just listened to Paradise for now. It's a nice song, strong hook, great performances all around. I especially liked the bass part in the upper register. The arrangement had kind of a theatrical vibe - like Prince, Queen and Meatloaf. A few impressions of the mix: - Drums were too loud for my...

    Semi-hollow bodies

I have a Gibson ES-135 that sounds great. These are the discontinued models that were replaced by the ES-137 - the new 135's don't even have f-holes :-( . Aside for some obvious QC flaws, the guitar looks and sounds great, it has '57 humbuckers and does the Les Paul/ES-335 thing very nicely...

    Opinions kindly requested please

After going back and reading your bio, I have a better understanding of the group. By describing yourselves as progressive technical rock, you've refused to pin yourself into some generic musical category. I think you've achieved your goals with these demos - they are diverse, expressive and...

    Opinions kindly requested please

First off, it sounds like you guys are having an identity crisis on what musical direction to take the band. These two clips sound like two completely different bands. The first song reminded me of early Yellowjackets and the Rippingtons. Great sounding drums and keys, the guitar was a bit...

    Big White Porch

The intro is a little sloppy. Good acoustic guitar sound. Decent electric guitar sounds, though I'd opt for more of a delayed effect rather than chorus (which sounds a little dated to me). Maybe add a little grit also - it's really clean. My main criticism of all the songs posted here is the...

    CD Almost Finished

Rob nails the genre! I was in high school and learned to play guitar in the mid '80's. It was an awful time to learn guitar because if you couldn't wank on Eruption, tease your hair and look good in spandex, you got no respect. And I couldn't do any of those things and still can't! While...

    New Song Demo: for Critique

I heard the chorus, or B section, first come in around 50 seconds into the tune and it repeats twice. I heard "platonic chair..." as it was intended - as the bridge. But I guess that's the point. In a great pop song, you don't need to go looking for the chorus - it hits you over the head...

    New Song Demo: for Critique

I think the song has potential. I really like the verses, nice melody and interesting chord progression. But the chorus (or 'B' section in this case) is a big letdown. I kept waiting for a hook, but it just droned on and on with the same rhythm as the verses (only less interesting). From a...

    Please critique "Through My Head"

It's worth mentioning that the chorus stayed with me when I was on the train to work this morning. It's always a good sign when a chorus is memorable after just a few listens (which is why they call it a hook!). I think it just needs to be developed to bring it out in the more in the mix...

    Please critique '1000 Kisses'

No, I just didn't give myself enough slack time at the beginning of the song! The bass comes in a tad late. Good ears! If you listen carefully at the end, I got some click track bleed that almost ruined the song. Live and learn I guess... Thanks for the feedback!

My first song from my solo project

Good song, it grabbed me and kept me listening: -The rhythm guitar SOUNDS like it was recorded direct with a POD. As a result, it sounds too distant and washed out to be really effective. I'd try miking up a cabinet, record the sound dry and add effects after the fact. -The distorted...

    Please critique '1000 Kisses'

Thanks for the comments, Dar. I can definitely see how people might not be able to relate to the lyrics or find them cheezy. I've always put more effort into the music rather than the lyrics, and I think it shows here.
