    Please Critique this Instrument-thick mix

Latest version, after members suggestions. I got this a bit more cleaned up in the middle, and reduced some muddiness, imo. Hopefully punchier as well. plmk

2nd "Who We Are" track from last Thursday's recording session - "Happens Every Time"

Re: last mix. I'm cool with most instruments here, the bass is thick, but harkens back to a cool 70's vibe. The organ jumps out just a tad too preset for me (if it were a real B3 with Leslie, though, np). The vocals could use a high shelf around 6K and up crispness. Good song and vibe.

Mix fix . Took suggestions , have a listen and any feedback / Thanks for your ears !!

Drums sound a bit small, and the bass is, at least, about half the level it should be. Also, everything is too awashed in reverb, unless, you want to go for an 80's, Dokken sound (not that there's anything wrong with that)

I have finally finished mixing my 'album', now I'm looking for feedback!

Great idea re: a reverb was on drums, VHS. The drums would be more present and perform it's function, while matching the externalism of the other instrumentation. I use, imo, a good verb/room plugin called Reverberate.

I have finally finished mixing my 'album', now I'm looking for feedback!

I can always tell when an instrument is mixed too low when it makes it's debut in the song, and in the case of "Mysteries" when the drums come in, there's little change in dynamics. For reference, check out an album called "Avalon" by Roxy Music, which is offers ethereal, yet rhythmically driven...

Muddy and thin at the same time? Need a bit of help

I would try to use some reference tracks of your favorite artists in this genre, and try too sculpt the individual tracks to match (to the point where it's still your sound) using eq, hi/low/band pass filters, and experiment with tape saturation/aural exciter plugins to make the instruments "pop...

Plz Check Out Reboot of "Look Into the Devil's Eyes"

Hey TM, VHS, BH, and Cleared - Thanks. The intro is supposed to be a build up, so that is why the kicks may be a little loud in the beginning. The guitars are bottomy, because I used "Not Even Slinky" thick gauge stings, but I can hi-pass them if you think it is necessary. I'll try riding the...

Plz Check Out Reboot of "Look Into the Devil's Eyes"

Here a song where I reworked the lyrics and hopefully brought forth a better mix of. New song with an old school vibe. Please critique.

    Where to go from here...?

Nice Ethereal mix. You say it's a wall off sound, but it's a level wall, with instruments sitting well with each other. Kick needs work. Are you singing "gibberish" because it's just a placeholder for better lyrics?

Please Check Quality of "Too Many Gods, Too Many Wars" Mix

I might take you up on that offer - Would you want the midi files for drums, bass and stings, or an audio recording of said files. And is 24bit 44k ok?

Starting Final Mixes: Song 1-My Praise

That's what I'm doing with the singer I'm working with right now (check out "Too Many Gods, Too Many Wars", Beware the Wiccan" etc on this forum") I would feed him the notes on keyboard in his headphones, then make a guide track using Melodyne. Actually, everything I'm posting right now is a...

    Respect My Soul

Some of the posters above are suggesting a sure SM58, which is cool, but I've seen decent condenser mics for around $100 as well. example Used Oktava MK-319 Condensor Microphone | Microphones | Music Go Round Albuquerque. You would need an interface with phantom power, so the whole deal may be...

Please Check Quality of "Too Many Gods, Too Many Wars" Mix

It does have some compression, via Ozone 7, but I'm trying to hit it at around -14 to -12 rms and no more than -3 peaks dBFS. so it acts as more of a glue, otherwise, these virtual instruments will sound hallow and sparse, imo. I'll get those kicks up soon.
