A ROCK recording on new equipment

It has been a while since I have posted in the clinic. My last rock postings have been recordings that were to an Akai multitrack, the dumped into CEP for mixing. My new setup is going straight into an Aardvark Q10. I have gotten new mics as well: U87 Beyer M88 C1 2 B-1's (and others) So...

anyone try the Oktava 52 ribbon?

Over on prosoundweb.com forums people say it is excellent on guitar cab. It is supposedly not as good as a Royer or Sank Modded M-260. Hope that helps Beez

UAD-1 now works with Direct X!

How cool is that. I am now saving my money for a UAD-1. Now if somehow a nice controller would work with CEP it could be comercially viable. Beez

    Ok since Im still torn...

Yeah. . . what Tubedude said. The Sennheiser 421 is a pretty common vocal mic for Rap. The 441 would be even better. What Gidge said about the Shure SM7b is spot on too. Other mics to consider would be: Beyerdynamic M88 Shure SM57 + pop screen Oktava 319 I would HIGHLY suggest a 441 or 421...

    Mission: Radio Shack Raid!

I just picked up my third 33-3032. These things are great little live mics. I have been using my first two for 6 months or more and have had great results. Not only are they road worthy, but they sound good too, once you learn some EQ tricks with them. I think they are good for higher toms. I...

good music from crappy a mic?

Stone Temple Pilots - Core. . . was made using primarily Sm57's if not all. So yes it could be done. I think another contender could be the EV635a. Beez

I'd just throw it in the clothes dryer for about 30 minutes :) Beez

    Best Battle Mic

Another good mic would be a Shure Unidyne "Elvis Mic." Those things are heavy and would wurt. The could also be attached to the end of a chain pretty easily! Beez

    Best Battle Mic

Beyer m88 TG or m69 TG. Very durable and good sounding. I also concur about the EV635a. Beez

    BEST MIC for home studio

If I were you I would go with the studio projects C-1. It has a bass roll off and most importantly a -10db pad. That will cover vocals, and guitar amp, and other things. Otherwise try a nice dynamic mic like a Sennheiser 441 or Beyer M88. Another very low cost alternative is the Electrovoice...

    My C3 not working???

If you are using an XLR - 1/4" cable phantom power won't work. You'll need an XLR Male to XLR Female for phantom to work properly. Beez

Metal band im tracking: Next song

Hmmm...I really don't have too many complaints. The only problem I have is that I would like a little more low end in the bass drum and bass. I almost feel like I am listening to it "without my sub turned on." Maybe give a bit more punch to the bass drum by giving it some lows as well. Sorry it...

good drum mic package kinda cheap?

Kick - Beyer M88 or Audix D4 or Peavey 520i or ATM25 Snare - SM57 Overheads - 2 Studio Projects B1's This will give you a very nice drum sound. Beez

    ORTF, drums, and close mics...

I find ORTF overheads work pretty well but need to be pretty close to the drummers head position. The beauty of this for me is less clutter to impede the drummer. I just stick a pair slightly behind and above his head position. I usually get much less toms this way though. Without a very good...

    Small Diaphram Condensors???

If the C2000b is all that it is cracked up to be, then it is a pretty good deal, considering that the shockmount alone costs $99. Also the H100 fits a lot of other microphones. Another option might be Octava's from sound room. You could spend the money for a single mic with cardoid cap and...

    Drum Room Treatment

Yes also not to mention the weight. Thats going to be a lot in a small concentrated area. I am sure it would hold, but over time who knows. Of course on a concrete slab floor it really wouldn't matter. I am no expert, but I think the idea is you have a reflective surface for one wall in the...

    Drum Room Treatment

With your rock, I would think you might want some sticking out a few inches and some recessed a few inches to help creat a wide dispersion. Good idea though and it would look fantastic. Third Eye Blind built a studio about a year ago that had bricks that were stacked and offset to creat...
