It sounds like you have your record mode set to punch in and out. There's buttons to control this in the transport bar. Unselect them to record straight through.

Please listen to this RAW song

The vocals definately aren't loud enough in my monitors, they seem buried by the instrumentals. Personally I think you could benifit from singing a little closer to the mic, also maybe some compression could help you to even out the level and bring it up a bit.

Help me pick my case lock...

Yeah, they won't prevent anyone from stealing them but they will keep your average sticky handed 5-year old out of them.

Help me pick my case lock...

I have a 90's Les Paul Studio and case just like yours. One of the things I love about my case is that even if you know the combination on the case, it's still hard to open. On my case you have to push the latch to the right as you pull it open with your thumb. I don't know if that made sense...

Audix i-5 mic and Shure 57

Get an sm57 even if you can't get your guitar to sound great through it you'll end up using it down the road for something.

Gretsch 8-ply Birch, now I need cymbals

The B8's sound good. When compared to similar AA model cymbals the B8's did not have as much life to them and sounded much more 'manufactured' for lack of a better word. All, in all, they are a good starter set.

    Buying new Soundcard

I would ditch the mixer idea completely and look into external pre amps. You can mix with the software in your computer. The Audiophile 24/96 is a rock solid card too by the the way.

    Audio interfaces to record turntables

Does it have to be USB? Why not just get an m-audio audiophile 24/96?

    Mic/Preamp decision!

I'm not positive on this, but I'm fairly sure that the DMP3 is just a pre amp, while the Firebox is a pre amp and audio interface in one. With the DMP3 you will also need an audio interface (sound card or external) to convert your analog signal into digital for use on your computer. The...

    Soundcard decisions!

If you can, get the firepod. I have one and it's great, you won't regret it. It's better to have too much then not enough right?

    all about sequenced/sampled drums

I never quantize my programed drums. Whenever I quantize them they lose all their natural feeling.

w/ $200 what to upgrade, presonus tubepre, v67g, emu 1212m

If I had $200 and was in your situation I think the best improvement for your sound would be to spend $60 of it and get some recording books. After your finished reading them and practising the techniques, maybe I would look at acoustic treatment.
