TIP: recording at 24bit 96k then mix down to 44.1 16bit

I just record at 16/44.1 but if I need to dither I've got Cool Edit and from what I understand its supposed to be pretty good at that.

Tried to sign up on Nowhere Radio...

Uh...Waldo, just a word of advice; if this guy shows up at your door with Jersey plates and says something like: Let's go whack some fish!, DON'T GO!

Some good news about GT Pro

I've talked to a couple of people now who've made the upgrade from GT2 to GT Pro and all seemed very happy. Supposedly even though it has more tracks there are less drop-out and latency problems. Also if anyone was wondering, those 32 tracks are indeed stereo tracks just like the 8-track version...

TIP: recording at 24bit 96k then mix down to 44.1 16bit

Hey, alright! Thanks, that really helps a lot I think. I visited another audio forum today that's geared a little more toward highend users (I don't normally go there much since half the people there are using incredibly expensive stuff and I feel a little out of sync with them) and read through...

TIP: recording at 24bit 96k then mix down to 44.1 16bit

I've got a friend (though not a good one really) who works in the sound/recording part of one of the bigger music stores in St. Louis and that's exactly what he says. It's just a ploy by the music manufacturers to try to get you to buy new equipment. He says he can't really hear the difference...

    Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro question

I looked at their website but didn't see anything about this. Does anyone know if the 32 tracks offered with this program are strereo or not? Guitar Tracks 2 has 8 stereo tracks so I would assume it's big brother would be like that too but then again I was surprised to find that the 16 tracks...

    WTB: MXL v67

Cyan; I don't have the 67 but I do have the 57 and they're identical in shape. I've noticed that they look exactly (IMHO) like some of the EV mics I've seen. If you already have an EV you might want to try the shock mount out on the 57 or 67 before you buy one. They're literally the same mic...

Which software you use to make audio recording

Boy, I can't believe I actually waded through all 4 pages of this. Can you tell it's a rainy Saturday?:) Man, there is soooo much to consider when buying music software. Whether or not you use midi (and frankly, I don't know why anyone with 24+ tracks of audio would need midi unless they just...

TIP: recording at 24bit 96k then mix down to 44.1 16bit

Speaking of recording at 24/96KHz, is there anybody here who's actually done it? I gotta think that even with dual Pent4's and 512 ram it would still take forever to do anything. I'm quite happy with the sound I get at 16/44. If it's gonna really bog down the process then it would have to...

    POD + SB Live

Hey, you're hardcore aren't you? :) I kept things very simple; certainly no cover because I never planned on it leaving the house. No handles either for similar reasons. I don't even use a mic stand, let alone a gooseneck. I just lay the mic down on that 2" piece of foam in front of the...

    POD + SB Live

Here's another photo pf one you can actually "buy" from Demeter. They want a whopping 350 bucks for it and that doesn't include a speaker or mic! It's insane! You can make your own out of 1/2"-plywood (or particle board) for for less than 50 dollars. I made mine so that the speaker was on its...

    Plus Ebow ?

You should hear Keaggy do "his" bagpipe immitation. He does a simulated bagpipe rendition of Amazing Grace on his Electric Guitar instructional video that's an absolute jaw-dropper! Sometimes I'd swear that little monkey's got three hands.

    POD + SB Live

Oh, it sounds great! Alan Holdsworth recorded half his albums with a homemade one which is where I got the idea. It's true you don't get any room sound but most of the people around here don't have the luxury of a nice sounding wooden-walled room to mic for ambience anyway. We're just close...

    CD Writing

Well, I don't know about the freezing process but on a more serious note, I've noticed that if I leave a CD playing in my truck for a long period of time that it will get fairly hot to the touch and eventually I'll start hearing these squealing sounds from my speakers. Of course if I'm playing...

    First Microphone: SM57 or SM58?

Well, you'll never hear it now. I took it down today; seeing how it is copywrited material and all. You didn't miss much anyway.

    POD + SB Live

Build yourself a speaker box and stick a mic in it if your worried about the neighbors. It'll sound just like you want it to and you won't have to blow more than a hundred bucks on materials, including the speaker. There's no way I'd spend 400 bucks on a Pod. There just isn't enough circiutry or...

    CD Writing

Hmm...interresting thread. I'm certainly no expert on the burning and grabbing/ripping process but from what I understand any audio you take from a prerecorded CD has to be turned into "raw" data which is then re-distributed (converted) into a wave file. Then you burn the wave to the new CD. So...

    First Microphone: SM57 or SM58?

Oh, it was the Marshall MXL57. I would never mic an acoustic guitar with a Sure SM57. By the way, that Marshall usually sounds a little better on acoustic than it did there (although I still thought it sounded fine.) It was just a quickie recording I did for that guy and I had left the mixing...

    Plus Ebow ?

Yeah, Keaggy's the ebow king. None of us would know what we were doing with it if it wasn't for him. You'll get best results using humbucker pickups, and you'll want to play on the front one 90% of the time. Also, a delay set to around 400 miliseconds and some nice chorusing. Sometimes flanging...
