I just built my first drum from scratch

The finish is beautiful. I've always wondered how a snare made from purple heart would sound.

    Triggers -

Does anyone record with triggers? If so, what is your set up and which drums do you use them on... In my mind it goes like this..... Drum----trigger attached-----trigger goes to some kind of box------box goes to interface or whatever your recording on. How close am I? Are there advatages...

How many tracks do you use to record drums?

    1. Kick - Shure beta 52a 2. Snare - SM 57 3. Overhead - Just one SM81 ( not sure if i'm supposed to use that, I know a lot of people only throw it on high hats ) Preferably, that's it. I like to use as little mics as possible, even if I'm getting down on some fills, I'll just neglect the toms...

    Cymbal Manufacturers

I can second this too! Basically the exact same situation - went to a local music store to try one out, found it online for cheaper. I'll also add that you can really beat the hell out of them. I'm not a really hard player but I've got all sorts of friends who come over.....at this point...

    Cymbal Manufacturers

I've always been told, and do believe, to never go with anything that's completely hand made. I think everyone's been saying Zildjians are inconsistant and I'll second that. I made the mistake of going into a booth and not actually testing the cymbal I was going to be taking home. I also...

    my guit sound problem..

I have that same problem sometimes and with my limited setup I've found that different tones and distortions pick up better than others. It's sad because a good recording should sound exactly like what was previously played live and a lot of the time that just doesnt happen. (that's in my...

    Tube amps on a budget...

So the pot is black, the kettle is black, and the pot calls the kettle black.... Does the pot call the kettle black in a bad way? What would the kettle say? "So are you" ? Which is the smarter of the two?

Hey..first off how cool. Did you do anything in the audio department? I have tons of friends who go or have gone but none have been involved in what I'm trying to do. That aside, I still only positive things about the school. Any advice you have or general information concerning Mesa would...

when can we call ourselves, or be called Gear Junkies?

I think when you've got GAS you got GAS. I cant tell you how many times my dad comes home with a new bass or guitar and says, "I'd never get rid of this one.." Three months later no sight of the rumblefish...the ric 403...the jazzmaster...
