    Pro Tools WITHOUT proprietary software...???

thanks again, everyone. here's another quick question: one of my mastering clients was asking me over the phone the other day, what would happen in HIS case? He is running a Digi003 rack; & Pro Tools, on a Mac lap top. He wants to continue using Pro Tools...but he also wants to now add a...

Latency & Sync between 2 Adjacent A/D Converters...???

hello... first of all...w/ A/D conversion...is latency EVER an issue when tracking...??? [i.e., I know it's not in the analog domain...several source signals coming into a console, for example; & being output to the ADC. But as to the latency created by the conversion itself...if any...as...

    Pro Tools WITHOUT proprietary software...???

thanks all... I actually need a good 8 channel preamp...so if I went w/ an m-audio ProFire 2626...(& got Pro Tools in that manner)...I would still have to clock it thru my Lynx Aurora 8/AES16. The Lynx allows an S/MUX expansion card called the LT-ADAT as an L-Slot; & then the ProFire 2626...

    Pro Tools WITHOUT proprietary software...???

I'm sure this question has been asked before... but I'd like to use Pro Tools on Windows XP without having to purchase an proprietary hardware. I don't care if it's an older version...I just want the software. so... 1) is this possible ? 2) if so...are available versions so watered down...

    32 >16 (Dither)...better results than 24 > 16

fellas... I wasn't claiming two different dithering steps...or...even a better sound resulting from same. there is only 1 use of dither in either method. I was just wondering if going from 32 to 16 is acceptable...in terms of the way the software works, standard mixing/mastering practices...

    32 >16 (Dither)...better results than 24 > 16

kinda wondering... what happens when one dithers a (legal) 32-Bit FP file all the way down to 16-Bit w/ their favorite dither box ?? reason I ask is...I'd been used to (like everyone else, I suppose) bouncing out of the DAW (SONAR) at 32-Bit FP...then brick walling to legal in the mastering...

Huge Problem w/ Native Instruments & SONAR

[sorry to be posting so often lately...but this one's a biggie & needs to be solved in a big way]... Every time I use VI's from Native Instruments...as Soft Synths...SONAR goes whacky & will not re-open a project after it's been saved & closed. If I install a single NI Soft Synth...(normally...

Do I Really Need 'Windows Media Server' ???

guys... thanks again. [forgot to come back & check on my post...sorry.] Decided to go w/ .wma's (streamed in a typical manner) as opposed to mp3 (I listened to both encoded at 320kbps; & liked .wma better). anyway...when I tried it...much to my astonishment...they buffered & streamed just as...

Do I Really Need 'Windows Media Server' ???

thanks... well...now that I've thought about it; & taken another look at my existing site, I kind of like the aesthetics I designed in to the musical compositions page. It has a nice background, w/ larger-than-usual text links to .wma's (which are actually links to .wax files which point to...

Do I Really Need 'Windows Media Server' ???

man... ...[it's been so long since I launced my music site, I forgot why I thought it was neccessary, but]... my Hosting service (Hostway) offered Windows Media Server at the time. I wanted visitors to have the ability to quickly stream .wma's, so I went for the cost. now...I'm unemployed; &...

Bandwidth (limiting of) in Mastering ???

hello... Released my ex-band's CD in 2006; & at that time, my vehicle only had a Cassette player. So I dubbed the music down to cassette for playback in that vehicle...& it sounded GREAT...I mean, really clear, detailed & punchy. Sold that vehicle not long ago; & just recently began to play...

    Best AI/Soundcard for Cheap Guitarist

thanks, tree... (had no idea you were still here...u used to help me out quite a bit, back in the day...thanks for those days, man) anyway...not a bad idea, that. I used to run m-audio gear myself, but every playback was greeted by a loud click. Could never get rid of it. I guess that's...

    Wave Profiler Not Present

sorry to post twice in the same day, but... I have been running SONAR7 on my office machine...my internet & everything-else-but audio machine...just for convenience. (it's a Compaq SR5610F). I had an old Layla 24/96 installed as the AI, as a test. The test failed...the SRC was shot. I...

    Best AI/Soundcard for Cheap Guitarist

sure hope he doesn't read this, but... I've always handed down my old audio interface's to my lead guitarist...whenever I upgrade. Last time I did so...I had moved up to a Lynx Aurora8; & lent him my old Layla24/96 (by Echo Audio). For about six months, it has been dying. Finally, the SRC...

Microsoft 'Word' on a dedicated audio machine ???

wow...!!! Huge (& informative) response...thanks everyone...will & take it all in & digest, but I'm leaning toward Word (since I already have the app; & am used to it). [not that I couldn't get used to the freeware, but I'm sort of dogmatic in my workflow & appreciate familiarity.] On the...

Microsoft 'Word' on a dedicated audio machine ???

Yo... Had to add a second PC to the studio...for the office...in order to dedicate my main box (ADK Pro Audio) as an audio workstation only (on advice of the mfg...picked up a mean backdoor virus...long story...but back in business now, tho). Despite the fact that I'm being very careful now as...

Hardware Question For Tracking Vocals... Compressor/limiter/preamp??

mofo... Thanks...makes sense now that I think about it (ratio also having an affect on the waveform). RNC also recommends a fast attack w/ the max ratio setting (25:1). [but they also recommend increasing (accordingly) the 'release' time for slower signals (vox being slower than snare hit...
