Thanks a lot for your replies. I have a little heater down there but I can't leave it runnning when I leave. I can't even leave it plugged in. Maybe I'll invest in a different one like you said!
But as of now I only have 4 mics so I might as well take them home with me. I've started taking...

Hello,
I just set up a small studio in a garage and it get's kind of cold out there...especially at night. Is this bad for microphones? I figured they were made to handle a lot...and it doesnt say anywhere not to leave them out in cold weather.
I've got 2 shure sm57s, an audio technica 4033...
I've lowered mine down close to the -20db level. I was getting too much ->>hiss<<-. This has virtually solved the problem.
I spoke to a guy from Sam Ash today who owned a recording studio. He told me to just lower the monitors way down and turn up all the other levels. He said no...
thanks for all your help everyone.
I've checked the monitors with other units besides the computer. So I know it's not them. I think the hiss is coming from the computer.
i spoke with a gentleman today at Sam Ash. He said my particular sound card is generally a quiet one. He also informed...
I saw the 8thstreet.com bulk discount price(299.00) but I didnt feel like waiting for it in the mail. So I went to Sam Ash to buy one...350.00. But I told them about 8thstreet's price and they matched the 299.00. I was pretty happy about that.
Anyway, the mic is great. It came with a case...
What is TRS/Tip Ring? It doesnt say that anywhere on the packaging. I guess I would have to say they look like Tip Ring to me. They shouldnt be the problem though. I plugged my tape deck into the monitors with the same cables and got no noise. I also plugged the headphone out jack on the...
Hi,
I have an Aardvark Direct Pro 24/96 plugged into Event PS6 monitors using Monster Cable Standard 100 Gold Tip 1/4" cables.
A very annoying HISS is present either when music is on or off. It's somewhat low but it really bothers me when the music is off. The monitors just have a constant...
I've played piccolo snares a bunch of times. At first I really enjoyed the sound of them. But lately they've started to sound kind of like a tin can.
i'm going to upgrade my snare...its a Pearl Standard Steel Shell. I really don't like it too much.
I love that tight crisp sound but what is...
what are yours set at? Is the MAX setting better than the 0dB? or is that too loud?
the volume on the back controls the input...not the output. I'd really like to be able to crank the volume on my meters in the software up to the normal level. but then I'd have to lower the settings on the...
definitely fatten up the vocals with some eq....add more Low end. that would help a lot. also raise the vocal level overall. its too thin and low sounding. other than that, the music is mixed well and its a good tune!

I've read that it IS possible to get a decent mix with headphones. I've heard the SONY MDR-7506 model is a great buy. Just read this here...

I heard they were better than the M1's also. That's why i chose them. I got mine from MF because originally they had some blemished versions for $467.99 but they all sold out way too quick! I still wound up buying from MF anyway b/c at the time i ordered they were $550.00 w/ FREE shipping...
drstawl,
im really sorry. i didnt think it pertained to the Sonic Foundry section anymore so I didnt bother to explain. I have the Aardvark Direct Pro and when I called their tech support they told me to change the patchbay settings to:
Monitor L,R -------analog 1,2 Out
Monitor L,R...
i spoke with an employee of aardvark today and i asked him what he thought about whether or not you should record at 48khz or even 96khz to just convert back to 44.1khz. he said it really depended all on the project or type of music that was being recorded. but i feel he was basically saying...
Hey Everybody,
My PS6 monitors arrived today! I picked them out based on reading this website. I think they're oustanding! I can hear frequencies I never thought audible. Everything sounds completely different. You can really pick out the subtleties.
I might get some gold tip 1/4"...
