I have one and love it. I use it on guitar and it preforms surprisingly well. I don't tend to use it on vocals much as I find it a tad harsh. You usually find them around $100 new if you keep looking.

The 2010 is a decent mic. It uses the same capsule as the AT2020 but is of course a handheld mic. Could be a nice option considering you can get them for less than $100 often.

Last year around this time, I searched for a similar answer. I was recommend the Lenovo ThinkpadT400 (now replaced by the T410) and it is a fantastic unit. Very durable, reliable, an useful- in and out of the recording sphere.

As I work doing theatre sound all the time , I can attest to this. I usually just cover the switch up with gaff if I have to use a switched mic.

So I've tried connecting it/turning it on with the computer off first, on first and its still not helping. It won't go into "interface" mode. Did anyone have any trouble like this?
