    Quiet CPU fan recommendation?

I run a silenx 600w in mine, great PS and very quiet. You can hardly hear it running. They also have some great case fans. www.silenx.com

Building a Home Studio Ver 2.0

I understand the floating floor thing, I've built one here. When I read "riser" I thought of an elevated drum platform- must be from my R+R days! Floating platform/floor- yes, drum riser- no. So, what is the transmission coefficient for cement? I know it's not as soundproof as we might think...

Building a Home Studio Ver 2.0

BiGHigh, I've built a similar room myself -mine's about 17x 11. And actually, it's part of a separate building that was built for studio purposes. I have a two room set up the other room is maybe 12x11. the control room has 3 walls and ceilings with RC and one staggered stud- (the wall which...

    Group channels question

I'll try to duplicate this on my set up today. what reverb are you using? I'm using SX so I may not get the same results as you. BTW are you using a stereo reverb effect?

Treating my studio with foam - check out my pics please

Pointer # 1: hunker down and do some reading here before you order a pile of foam. Pointer # 2: DIY is the best way to get the most for your money, and loads of people have posted here what they've done to their rooms with their own two hands.

    Group channels question

Perhaps you've inadvertently created a mono group channel. try creating a new group and make sure you select a stereo group. I think when you are assigning track outputs it will show you the stereo output for the groups and the separate L=R in subtext underneath as well... At least in Cubase...

    Looking around on Ebay...

FYI- if you don't get a legit warranty registration card with it ( and I don't mean one of the extra foreign country registration cards that come with it) or get the current one transfered- there is no upgrade path. Period. And with the rapid pace of technology- no upgrade path is not an option...

Hammerfall DSP Multiface and PCI card bundle

To clarify that a bit more: To use with a laptop, you have to have the PCMCIA card with the multiface. If you want to use it with a tower, you need the PCI card to go with the multiface instead. RME is rock solid. Great interface and matrix mixer too.

    grainy digital/whats goin on!!!

I was running a mix off a roland workstation today via the coaxial digital output into cubase and noticed a very similar problem. Turned out to be that the Roland was putting out 44.1K, and I think my RME soundcard was trying to be the master clock at 48k , and the cubase project was recording...

    Resonators

Not that you'll be putting these on the back walls of the home studio, but I built some huge resonators this past week and thought I'd show 'em off. They are part of the acoustic treatment for a church I'm doing some work at. The big ones are 7'x8' and the smaller ones are 3'x8'. They vary in...

It rained in my studio yesterday.

Michael, Perhaps Rainforest Studios would be a more appropriate name. ;-) I remember getting real rain and ice in mine while being built. Looked like a skating rink. Thank God Advantech subflooring is completely waterproof. I would show you a picture but a computer virus wiped out nearly...

    Ring, Tip & Sleeve

Speaking of XLR's- I always forgot which color goes to which connector in an XLR set up ... ( Maybe it was the lead solder smoke) until I read this recently. Think of George Washington Bridge George= Ground= pin #1 Washington= White= pin # 2 Bridge= Black= Pin # 3...

Can I re-sell my Cubase SL??

I bought a used Cubase SX package from a user that went to another program. Now trying to upgrade, I have found this out: There is a $50 ownership transfer fee charged by steinberg to make any ownership/ warranty transfers legit. (If you never registered it in the first place this may not...

This corner, that angle... any general hints?

It would seem you could make your control room symetrical by orienting the mixing desk toward the left front corner of the room. It looks like the room would then be a near perfect diamond shape... Granted, this is not the normal design of a control room, but it would offer a much more balanced...

    simple question: shelves in corner?

To directly answer your question in terms of what will it do- books, especially big heavy ones with their varying sizes and thicknesses add a good measure of absorption and a dollop of diffusion as well. This, I guess, fits into the "makeshift" category of acoustic treatment. I've been in a...

Hear room reverb in cans but not in nearfields

ROTFL... I had a thought this weekend about your situation. Are you using the headphones while your monitors are turned on and playing? My understanding is that this is what noise cancellation phones do: they take the noise (or in this case music) they pick up in the immediate listening...

Hear room reverb in cans but not in nearfields

Wow, an interesting problem... Don't know much about the Bose headphones, but could the noise supression be doing some sort of weird center channel cancelling that reveals the reverb in the left and right? Kind of like a vocal remover does. Try another set of phones. let us know what the...
