    Motu 896

Firewire is fast enough. They are coming out with firewire 2 protocols soon that double current firewire bandwidths. However, machines made now will probably not be able to take advantage of this unless you have something like the metric halo unit.

    Motu 896

I have a PC card that has two firewire plug spaces. So I plug the HD into one and the MOTU into another. I was having some problems with the hard drive crapping out on me and not being detected all of a sudden but it seems to be working fine now. I just changed the ports that the devices were...

    Motu 896

If you're talking about the 828's they're pretty cool firewire units. If you are planning on using it with a laptop watch out for the 4500 rpm hard drive speed. It's too slow for anything more than a few tracks. I use a firewire hard drive with my laptop and can get about 18 to 24 tracks...

    Online Loop libraries

Does anybody know of any online loop libraries with good loops? Either free loops or ones that let you preview a really bad quality loop and pay to download. I just don't want to buy a $100.00 CD that has only a few loops that I like.

    Laptop hard drive for recording?

actually I use my laptop quite well for recording. I have a MOTU 828 with a firewire cardbus card. My firewire card has two inputs and I use a 7200 rpm firewire hard drive along with the 828. If you want to get a really stable drive get one of the new glyph hard drive. I've never used them...

    Attn. Dragon-How about a singer's forum?

I was a voice major in college for a while until I decided to major in zoology. I know alot about singing "nicely". Is there any way you can sing like bands such as System of A Down and Tool (scream and sing etc.) without developing nodes and damaging your voice? Does any book have info on this?

    Big Background Vocal Yells

Try a few people singing with some chorus and maybe a little delay. Just my guess. -Jamie

    Decent Reverb

tubedude, Can you run plug-ins in a live manner? I mean can you record vocals and hear the reverb as you're recording? The only reason I was interested in an outboard reverb unit is because I wanted the vocalist to be able to sing with reverb rather than add it later. Thanks, Jamie

    Stereo recording

ok, I thought that might be the case. I was hoping that I could record in stereo from one channel but that's not a big deal. Thanks.

    Stereo recording

Thanks for the info. I'm still working it out. I was actually recording directly from a mic into the preamp on channels 1 and two. I tried another cable with the same result. Maybe I don't have it hooked up right. I will try re-installing Sonar. -Jamie

    Stereo recording

I am having trouble recording from the stereo input on my MOTU 828. When I record in Sonar it only shows up in the right stereo field wavefrom and I can only monitor it through my right ear in headphones. I can get stereo if I record two tracks simultaneously one recording the right input and...

    How does Tool do it?

Does anybody know how the band Tool gets such a massively awesome drum sound (besides having one of the best drummers in the world)?

    Laptops and soundcards

There are a few ways of doing this. A number of companies make cardbus interfaces such as echo and RME. Also you can get a firewire interface such as the MOTU 828 or the Mobile I/O from Metric Halo. Some of these units have more internal processing than others and the prices vary greatly...
