Re: I got the info you're after...
Ok, everybody try this, sit in front of your monitors in the sweet spot and put on some music which has a nice spectral balance with a lot of high freq detail etc. , sit upright with your head facing straight and level and listen to the sound, now slowly...
The point I was trying to make is that a company isnt simply gonna put out a budget board with upgraded pres, you need to upgrade the power supply, the mix bus, and just about everything else as well.
Hmmm, I always wanted a ferrari, But I don't really need it to be fast because the speed limit is 55 anyway, and I can do without all the really well made interior, transmission and suspension stuff. I know, I'll start a company that takes Ferrari body shells and mounts them on the chassis and...
The Sony MDR 7506 phones are popular with live engineers, they fold, they come with a bag and they give a lot more isolation than you would think from looking at them, they also sound pretty good, try a pair and see if you like them.
Or you can try out a pair of 'Studio Kans' they are supposed...
Maybe you should look at getting a stand alone pre, it's better to get one channel of world class sound than 16 channels of mediocrity and the redundancy of another console.
Worry about getting it to sound good before you worry about getting it loud, don't even bother to try to get it as loud as recent commercial releases because you cant, at least not without severely degrading your sound.
A normal small/medium gig would usually be set up like this:
Kick : Mic -> cable -> snake -> mixer ch 1
Snare : Mic -> cable -> snake -> mixer ch 2
HiHats : Mic -> cable -> snake -> mixer ch 3
Tom 1 : Mic -> cable -> snake...
The Bassist on the other hand usually plugs into a direct box which then splits the signal, one (unmodified) signal goes to the onstage bass amp and the other converts to xlr (mic cable) and goes to the mixing board. You can mic the bassamp instead if you want but going direct is a lot simpler...
High frequencies are more directional than low frequencies, so the highs more or less travel straight out from the centre of the speaker cone while the lower frequencies spead out more. What this means is that if you have your amp on the floor down by your knees you aren't hearing most of the...
All the mics used at the VMA's, including the drum mics and handheld wirelesses were Audio Technicas as far as I could tell. The sound company probably has an endorsement deal or something.
Maybe you know this already, but I just wanted to make sure that you know that there is a difference between a 4 BAND compressor and a 4 CHANNEL compressor. A 4 band compressor will split one audio signal into 4 parts: bass, lowmid, highmid, and highs and let you compress one part of the signal...
Basically anytime you need to send a signal from a single mic to a couple different locations, eg. At a live show the stage mics need to go to the main Front Of House console, the Onstage Monitor console and maybe even a recording truck, you dont want the different consoles to affect the signal...
Although it is possible to plug a dynamic mic straight into a compressor it will lead to all sorts of mismatches and basically sound like crap.
The signal chain should always be Mic -> Mic Preamp -> other line level gear.
The most common complaint about Behringer boards is that they have an...
