If you need more than 2 analog inputs, you have to increase your budget a bit. Don't waste time on USB interfaces. Too many people have bad experiences with those (including me). In the 2-300 budget there are the Echo Indigo IO (cardbus) and the M-Audio Firewire Audiophile. Both 2 analog inputs...

I've used a pair of B5's along with a SP B3 on a tango quartet last February. They're decent to say the least. Self-noise is not an issue. But I'm still a newbie in the recording field so I don't feel qualified to rate them. They're the first and only sdc's that I've ever used. :)

I assume that the XLR output of the amp is on line level. In that case, all you have to do is to get one of those xlr to 1/4'' cables and plug it into one of the line inputs of the 1820m.

It sounded like you portrayed it. Cheap. A Reel Person gets a better sound quality out of his Tascams. And you can get 10 tracks on a 4 track with bouncing the tracks just once. Hey, I'm all into computer recording and I wouldn't want to work any other way so I know what you're getting at but...
