Which version of Windows 7 ?

Thanks for all those answers. This: The only thing that I can think of is that Win7 Pro allows you to use the integrated Windows backup utility to save backup data to a network location. So if you have a NAS, you can back up your files there. is interesting. I was not thinking of backup in...

Which version of Windows 7 ?

I have Windows 7 Home Premium on my new DAW. I find that I have need to remotely connect another computer in the house occasionally. My two options are to use one of the free VNC softwares available, or, for $50 or so, to upgrade to Win 7 Pro, which has Remote Desktop Connection built in. So...

My DAW won't wake up !!!

I'll be exact. There is an ON button and a little indicator light on the monitor front. When the monitor is plugged in and ON button is pushed, the light comes on yellow, whether there is a computer connected to the monitor or not. When the computer boots the monitor, the yellow light become...

My DAW won't wake up !!!

Thank you. Yes, I won't be using sleep mode once I get recording. But this: """ Also, make sure the hard drives and USB are not turning off. If the HDs turn off, the computer won't kick back on.""" DO you mean that there are sleep mode settings in which the HD is not turned off? I guess I...

My DAW won't wake up !!!

I'm still getting things seet up in my new (Gigabyte W7) DAW and the power settings right now have a sleep mode (which I may disable later.) Last night, it would not come out of sleep mode. Even the power switch would not work, I had to pull the power cord. Even if I am going to change the...

    What DAW do you use?

The "Pro" in Pro Tools means "Production," not "Professional," as in "tools for music production."

    Linux DAW ???

Are there any worth a hoot? I think that Microsoft is close to not caring about anybody except phone users, which wil lbe a business decision and not a moral one which will hurt my feeling, but I think it may happen. Linux, anyone? I don't know anything about the stuff, except that users...

    External or internal drive?

Thanks for both of those. Are your external drives USB 2, or what? And whatever they are, I assume they're fast enough or you wouldn't use them.

    External or internal drive?

I've been using an external 750 GB Seagate (USB 2) as the data drive with my laptop for recording. For my new DAW desktop, I have ordered the same drive to be the #2 HD, internal usually being better than external. Then I thought: I wonder if there is any reason to keep that drive external...

New/clean install of Win7 on new DAW

New/clean install of Win7 on new DAW

No, I have bought the OEM disk. The $60 is definitely for installing Windows.

New/clean install of Win7 on new DAW

The shop building my DAW charges $60 to install Windows with the build (Win7 Home Premium, 2 hard drives.) I see zillions of videos, Microsoft Instructions, etc.. I'm not techie, but surely your average dolt can install Windows 7 without mucking it up, eh?

    Cloning & backup

 Yes, the clone is a backup of the more-or-less permanent files - programmes, etc. - and the data files are a different thing in the they change minute by minute. Why not have the clone include the data files and have those data files backed up at the end of the day... or session...

    Cloning & backup

Thanks, cecerre.............. but............. I was hoping that there was a two-step solution: copy/clone/image the drive, and then incrementally tack little bits on as you back up to it. I was thinking of "recover from disaster" as being the only reason to back up, and that it would be...

    Cloning & backup

Since were on the subject..... I was reading about the product Macrium Reflect, and in its list of features, I read: ""Directly copy one hard disk to another without creating an image file first."" I guess I don't know what an image is. Could someone please explain the differences between a...

If a fanless card heats up more than you like, might the situation be resolved by installing a small fan to cool it? Has anyone here done that? Thanks
