I would like to hear the OP of this thread re-record with an audio interface and another mic- she has good reading skills. Maybe the OP could borrow or rent some mics to try out to see what sounds good with her voice.
Steen, I like the Shure too, wasn't sure if it was overly bassy-
I was about 6-8 inches away- still got that proximity effect... boy I learned alot about my mics and my connections and room just by making comparison recordings.
Make the Scarlett the default playback and recording device in Windows settings.
For the .wav file you have to associate a program with that extension (in windows settings)
Forgive me my noobness on how bad the loop effect is... I removed the mixer loop- listened to the difference and it is extremely noticeable. Now the interface plus mic sounds way better than the USB Samson. I still hear my room non-treatment in there but the loop was adding echo also...
The Samson is tricky to not overload... I'm about 8-12 inches away.
You know about the echo... I don't have any effect on it... I think it is because I am running a "loop" from the mixer to the audio interface right back into the mixer so I can do live streaming karaoke. I should retry this...
I didnt think my room sounded THAT bad and I always though you all harped on room treatment too much.... Now I am depressed... Where is that thread on acoustic treatment ... sigh...
Here are some more of my crappy recordings- three mics but I tried to get the levels all the same- It really points out how much you need your room treated!!! My small untreated room sounds like REVERB central!!! The Samson held up pretty well and I really dont like the AT picks up all the...
Shure SM58 vs Samson Meteor USB - examples
I just recorded quick samples from my Samson Meteor USB vs a Shure SM58 through a Scarlett 2i2 ...hear for yourself what quality you want- I didnt pay much attention to the sound level normalization so just turn them up so they sound the same volume...
So you need:
1) Non-USB mic... Shure SM58 (watch the bass up close), AKG D5, or similar whatever sounds good with your voice- about $100 US. I guess the Shure is more of a live mic- any other suggestions for studio?
2) Audio interface 2 channels ... Steinburg UR 22, Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 or...
The sound card in your computer/USB mic is what sounds like crap. Read the sticky on audio interfaces. They function as an external soundcard for your computer and sound professional. And you will plug a real mic into it.
Jimmy/anyone... will the Tascam still work when the USB is not connected? Will it still route signals to the speakers and work normally? I have a Scarlett 2i2 and it only has USB power but I notice the TASCAM is A/C powered. I was wondering can you take it on the road and use it for the pre's...
Acetylene will work but you have to turn up the oxygen bottle to about 25 psi and use a cutting tip... :o The knob will become one with the mixer.
Super glue works good on plastic, a small drop is all you need. Repair may not hold with all the twisting the knob takes so you may want...
Today I learned that in a Home Recording Forum : Marshall cabinets are an accepted measure of weight.
How much does that sand weigh Jimmy? About 4 1/2 Marshall cabinets. Ok lets get it loaded up! Ha ha... :laughings:
Deep seeking stud finder might find them through the wood...but they're about $20 US... IF you have ceiling joists... may be concrete as pegger said. I wouldn't want my tenants drilling the nice wood panelling. I guess you could use wood filler to patch it up but its usually pretty...
