Same here. Seems to have EVERY tool I need. As a newb, it doesn't seem to be lacking in anything.
Within two hours of downloading the 14 day free trial, I had a song tracked using some available MIDI loops, along with my own vocals and guitar tracks. Bought a fully licensed version a couple...
Have you had problems with Mixcraft 4?
I just went through this same thing. I checked out the trial versions of Audacity, Reaper, N-Track and Mixcraft 5. IMHO, Mixcraft 5 blew them all away.....hands down. The Tech Support forum is outstanding, if you haven't already registered.
If you've...
Do yourself a favor and try this.......
Mixcraft 5 - Affordable multi-track audio and MIDI recording software.
VERY simple to use and, it's fully functional. After the 14 days, you lose the ability to mixdown and burn CD's or, buy the license and get the unlock codes.
I tried Audacity...
Nowadays, it not expensive. Tried the trial versions of N-Track, Audacity, Reaper and Mixcraft 5.
IMHO Mixcraft 5 by Acoustica matches up with the best of them........for about $75.
OK.....
My first bass was a Hagstrom II. I (foolishly) ended up selling it because the plastic on the face, around the input jack, had been epoxied back together so many times, there was nothing left but....epoxy. That was pre-internet days.....around '71. I could probably have found a face...
You just need a standard USB cable. There are USB mini's available as well. Generally used for MP3 players, portable recording devices, cell phones, etc........you don't need any of those.
^ This!
Messing with cassettes today is a waste of time and effort. You'll QUICKLY reach it's limitations and be bored..
If you're planning on spending any money on this project, I'd recommend you just stash it away and save some more until you can buy a proper interface. Consider...
Craigslist can be your friend!
I picked up a used Fast Track II for $35. I've seen Fast Track Pro's for around $85.
The "best sound quality" is a pretty subjective term. Can't really help you there.
Ditto that!
I've been attending some the recording workshops being held at Guitar Center and really like Garage Band. This is pretty much it but, for the PC.
I downloaded the 14 day trial version and within two hours, I had put together a song using a combination of MIDI tracks (both recorded...
Truth is, there's no margin in computers cause they're all designed and built at the lowest possible manufacturing costs. There's not a HELLUVA' lot of difference in "off-the-shelf" laptops and desktops today. Most any one from Best Buy, Staples and the like will work fine.
Depends what you want to do with it.
I use a Boss Micro BR to record band rehearsals, then I convert it to a .WAV file, transfer it to my PC, remove all the "dead space" then we can review it. The harp player uses a Tascam DP-004 and does the same. They both work good for that or for putting...
That'll certainly get you started.
If there's a Guitar Center in your area, they're holding free home recording workshops every Saturday mornings from 10:00 to 11:00. Good way to get a basic understanding for a newb.
They sell Mac's that come with Garage Band so the workshops are geared...
