    Does This Sound Commercial?

Great post ChirsHarris! I'll be wordy too. The guitar player specifically requested the boxy sound at 1:09. I think it is a good contrast and makes the processed guitar sound more impactful. I guess with this one I am under the thumb of a "producer." These are not necessarily the sounds I...

    Does This Sound Commercial?

Hmmm. . . To each his own I guess? I really can only say I hit record and did my best. I think it stands pretty well and I have heard worse make it on the radio. I can't make the band do any better and I can't make the band change thier sound. The guitar is run through a digital processor...

    Does This Sound Commercial?

I think this mix is very close to radio quality. Things I know already: 1. Guitar at beginning - You'll either love it or hate it 2. A few pitch problems in vocals 3. Cymbal crashes not as loud as hat or ride Help me find things I don't hear already. Please. www.elohsa.com/beezoboy/Wrapped...

    Shure Ribbbon Mics.......

Hmmm. . . I am not worthy to argue with Dan Kennedy, but I have gotten some pretty good vocals out of a Shure 330. I have too much verb on it, but you can listen to it and decide for yourself. I have 2 330's in immaculate condition. Dan, could the one(s) you tried have been broken?? Or possibly...

    The saga continues.....Noise...what noise?

I have a train that passes behing my house about 8 times everyday. The trick is to learn its schedule and record around it. Believe me. . . the train will come at the same time or within 10 minutes of the same time everyday. As for boats, I live too far inland. Maybe for noise concerns you...

    Peavey PVM 520TM vs various...

If it is a Peavey 520i, they are not bad mics. Unfortunately, they do better on bass drum or bass cab. I am sure they could be used with success on a screamer male singer. It might not be the first choice on a female singing a ballad. Beez

Spectre Sound - Final update. LOTS of pics.

It must be tough using a mixer sideways?? You should get a stand for that, or maybe a whole new desk with some built in patchbays and racks. That seems like it would be more flexible and more professional looking. Also why do you have a 8 minute, 15meg file as one of your recording downloads...

    u87

I have a U87i and I only paid $1300 for mine with no shockmount. I think $1500 is a bit high. So do I like it? Of course it sounds good on almost everything, although a bit dark at times. My reasoning was that I will eventually record people for money at my own studio, so why not go ahead and...

New band. . . New Mix. . . One of my best mixes so far

TexRoadkill - Did you mean low end in the mix or low end on the snare? I'll see what I can do to brighten it up a little. Kramer - Yes this is a Statesboro college band. They are one of the more popular ones around here. Wireneck and I are also in bands here in the 'boro. Wireneck - Hmmm. ...

Metal band im tracking : Song 3

Finally got rid of a pesky virus. Good mix. I really cant find too much wrong with this mix. Maybe a you could put a bit of reverb on the toms? They sound good, its just the only thing that struck me really. I got the first Middleground song up and posted. Give it a listen if you'd like. Beez

New band. . . New Mix. . . One of my best mixes so far

Hi everyone. I have been recording a band that has taken all summer to finally get it together, but they really did a great job on this song so maybe it will be worth the wait. I don't know what category this song fits into. I would call it pop/punk 'ish maybe, although that is not thier...

So how does the D6 size up?

Yeah. . . Ditto. I played at a club in NC and the sound guy used a D6 and got one of the best kick sounds I have ever heard out of my bass drum. The D112 is good too. Another sleeper option is the Peavey 520i. On 50% of the bass drums I stick it in, it sounds great FLAT. On the other 50% I...

Wow. . . This girl has only been playing 1 year!

Great response Groucho! Thats what I have wanted this whole time is for someone to tell me WHY! I also agree that Crawdad has some of the best reverbs on this board. I did tweak the frequency and rolled of highs. I didn't mess with reflections though, or predelay. Thanks for the "in depth"...

Wow. . . This girl has only been playing 1 year!

Hmmm....thanks for the rather confusing reply junplugged. Too much 'verb I guess has been the verdict. I just couldn't butcher the guitar part with 'verb. It seems like it ruins the stereo image and the clarity whenever I try and use some. Here is a thought though. . . Why does no one ever...

Wow. . . This girl has only been playing 1 year!

The reason I asked about monitors is because I hear reverb sooo much better on monitors than regular speakers. When I have listened on regular speakers I normally don't notice reverb unless it is overdone. Maybe its overdone, but its not in poor taste. The wet/dry balance is not bad either. I...

Wow. . . This girl has only been playing 1 year!

Hey thanks for the comments. I really thought the 'verb lends itself to these recordings. Are you guys listening on monitors? I guess maybe I got a little carried away on the 'verb, but it just sounds sooo good with her voice and it is such a nice reverb that I had to. . . Beez

Wow. . . This girl has only been playing 1 year!

I got to take a break from a full rock record I am working on and record a girl acoustic. She just came in with a guitar and herself and I set up a couple mics and we were on our way. She told me she had only been playing a year so I wasn't expecting too much. . . when all of the sudden I heard...

Grace 101 or RNP (Define Color for me please)

Most people consider the RNP to be fairly transparent also. Maybe a bit more color than the Grace but compared to an API or a Neve uncolored. I don't own any of these but, this is what I have gathered from what I have read. I hope that helps. Maybe Fletcher or Harvey can help you as they would...

Proper Preamp for my baby SPB1's?

I have heard that if you replace the tubes in the Behringer unit it can REALLY help the sound and make it quite usable. I have not really heard too much good about it otherwise. I would definately consider the VTB-1 and the RNP. The DMP3 could also help considerably. Those are really the...
