Yeah, It's a real mystery; MF seems to have about a dozen MXLs that aren't on MXL's site. What's with that?
If you click this link before 2359 PST 24 January, it'll show the $99.99 price.
In my futile Googling of this microphone, I did find a reference to them being $70 some time...
OK, so MF has these things for a hundred bucks "today only."
I can't find anything on them anywhere, not even on MXL's site. I'm expecting they are "a Musician's Friend exclusive" repackaging of something else, say a V67g maybe.
Whate are they, are they any good, are they worth $100 and are...
Well, remarkably, the whole thing arrived yesterday and I was surprised at how much the hardware, particularly, was an improvement over the "pro" stuff from a few decades ago, though this is only a "semi-pro" grade of set. The economizing was done intelligently and the overall utility kept...
Doesn't do much for the low frequencies, but it does help some.
Tip: Cheap sleeping bags are frequently less expensive during summer sales than the mover's quilts and in some cases provide more damping.
This seems to be the most common "expert" opinion I've seen in my drum-tuning reading so far. Recording = no front head and pillow damping.
I think my problem will be keeping the cat out of the open bass drum with a pillow inside it. Stomping the pedal will just make her more stubborn...
They're just liars.
They never shut up about their lowest price guarantee, so I tried to get them to match a Guitar Center price from the monthly flyer. They stalled and said they would if I sent them a scan of the ad, which I did -- then wouldn't answer my e-mail nor take my phone calls or...
To bring this sorry story up to date, MF never sent me the drums, but called me yesterday to tell me that they found the second carton and I could have it if I hadn't already sent the rest back. I hadn't, so they said they'd send them out this morning.
As of tonight, there's some screw-up...
I was thinking a set of Aquarian Studio or Evans Hydraulics...I want quiet, dead studio drums here...but just out of curiosity, whatever happened to good old duct tape to accomplish this?
Incredibly, I never got the second crate of drums and MF sent me a return label for the one crate I got and credited me $80 for my grief, but today I discovered that the second crate to the set has finally turned up and they're sending it to me tomorrow. I still get the $80.
Weird, weird, weird.
Well, however belatedly. Remember, these are the people who repeatedly told me that it was shipping every day for the past week and that they "absolutely, positively" had the parts. If I hadn't thrown a fit, I'd still be waiting in 2007.
Throwing a fit and demanding to talk to a manager...
It's a lot funnier to you than to Musician's Friend, I'm sure. ;)
Think about it: They ate shipping both ways on fifty-five (55) pounds of unsaleable merchandise and may or may not have cut the same $80 deal on compensation with all the buyers, never mind what they'll go through to get...
...by "Stupid Deal of the Day."
Hey, them scary drums I got from Musician's Friend on their "Stupid Deal of the Day" a couple of weeks ago? The ones that arrived without the second box with the rest of the drums and the hardware?
Well, for the past week, MF has been telling me that the rest of...
I certainly see the point, but so far I have never seen a private party deal on this stuff; I've both looked at ads and run them, and without one exception, these CraigsList jerks want more for their low-end, corroded, dinged cymbals than I can get thems for new, delivered. It's freaking...
Like an impulsive fool, I just picked up a Mapex Plasma set because it was on extremely long sale and I wanted a small set of actual drums in my home studio.
I'm sure these are far from pro stuff, but are there any links that come to mind about getting the most from small, inexpensive sets in...
