    Is color bad on vocals?

To get an almost-totally uncolored sound, you would use a reference mic and record in an anechoic chamber or outside, way out in the country where there are no noises. Does anyone do that?

    Mic placement for tracking bass

Why not? As long as you don't exceed the SPL limit, it should be fine.

I think anyone would. Well, maybe not Yanni. I'd have to agree with metalhead28.

    Mic placement for tracking bass

This is bad science. Waves are "fully developed" at the source. What you change by moving the mic closer or farther are a) the sound pressure level, b) the off-axis angle of the speaker perimeters, and c) how much of the room sound you are getting relative to the sound from the speaker itself...

There's no good way eliminate the bleed once it's been recorded.

Give me your vocal tracking tricks! NOW!

Wouldn't you want to listen to the singer first? Some singers' plosives need filtering, some don't. The recording will be of higher quality without the filtering, if you don't need it.

    double tracking guitars

You are probably inducing out-of-phase problems using two mics in proximity to each other. Take 1, use the SM57 on one speaker. Take 2, try the MD421 on one speaker.

    Recording a Piano recital

Listen to Marik. Classical recordings are by convention done with as few (accurate and painstakingly placed) mics as possible and without audio processing of any kind.

    What mic is this?

I have one of these mics (had it since 1973). Since there are no active electronics, nothing can be BOOSTED. It's just a simple three-position bass-rolloff switch. Not a bad mic.

    Changing the pace

All algorithms are not created equal. My Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 tempo-shift sounds terrible. I found that Audacity's does pretty well. And it's free.

Has anyone ever heard of a Peavey PVM 520 i mic?

"mono-transit?" That's a new one on me. A mic's low frequency response does not necessarily make it unsuitable for vocals. Other mics with huge low-frequency response include Beyerdynamic M88, Sennheiser MD421, RCA 44 and 77 - all nice vocal microphones. I've not found the 520i to be bad for...

Anyone replace a fan or power supply in a Dell?

What are you guys cracking on sync for? He didn't ask if he should build his own computer, but you guys want to rant. I am A+ certified, Network+ certified, MCSA, with a bachelors degree in CIS. I have built and maintained several computers. But the fact is - computers are now commodities...
