Would like to try Pro Tools. Whats needed?

Yup, my HP Win XP PC just crashed AGAIN, right in the middle of working on the post above........ I had to start all over again on the ibook, which just like the G4 Sawtooth I also have, has never crashed, not once...... ever...... That @#$^*%$ HP crashes at least once a day, every day, no...

Would like to try Pro Tools. Whats needed?

So, aside from the platform, you need at a minimum: PT Hardware Interface with PT LE Monitors Headphones 1 microphone, 2 would be better Computer a Room or Space that sounds decent Right now I have a Digi001 gathering dust, an Mbox (first generation), and a Digi 003 Rack that I just picked...

What is your favorite stock ProTools Plugin?

I like the new compression in 7.X. The presets for bass, vocals and drums work well without changing a thing. I just discovered using the brick wall setting on a lifeless snare drum. Works great. bilco

Would like to try Pro Tools. Whats needed?

+1 I have built PCs for years and studied to get my A+ certification. I hac nothing but heartache with PCs and DAWS, whether it was Cakewalk, n-Track or any of the other ones I tried. Until I got to PT LE 5.X and Windows. That was pretty stable, but not without the occasional glitchy...

So I'm sitting here with the default plugins in LE 7.3...

Check out the free versions of the Massey plugins. They won't memorized settings and they don't have all the features of the paid versions, but they are really great plugins, even in the limited free format. I think the full blown versions are something like $79 each...

    Behringer

.....the crack cocaine of audio gear...... "Must have more....." I have owned a 24 channel mixer, 2 channel mixer, the ADA8000 and a direct box. The direct box was the only one that quickly failed to live up to my expectations. The others all did exactly what they were supposed to do. The...

    Heil PR40 ?

You can hear it here, although it's just a shootout for the purposes of voiceover and the preamp was an Mbox, not exactly the best match for a demanding dynamic mic. Based on this shootout, I am more drawn to the PR20, which I could use for live gigs as well...

Mic picking up background noise - help!

Sennheiser 280 or Extreme Isolation Headphones mic at the 12th fret or where the neck meets the body, 6" to 9" out turn down the click before you hurt yourself a repeated drum loop works better than a click for me, more natural feel and the beat is subdivided instead of just quarter notes bilco

    Optional Acoustic Panels

Give them a try, I think they will at least help absorb flutter echo in your room. Record something without them in the room and then repeat with them in the room. Those things usually do have have some kind of sound absorbing material in them. bilco

    condenser for vocals?...not necessarily!!

I know exactly what you are saying. I am recording in an 11' X 11' X 8' untreated bedroom. I had a Rode NT1a and rented or borrowed some pretty expensive LDC mics and they all did a wonderful job of capturing flutter echo, my Corgis barking in the backyard, my cats meowing for food, the fridge...

    Preamp A vs Preamp B - Discuss.

I am wanting to do some A/B recordings myself and I was thinking of running 1 mic into some sort of splitter and then into the 2 preamps. That way, there can be no argument about the distance of the mic to the source not being exactly the same. I want to record my SM81 into 2 tracks of PT LE...

    Preamp A vs Preamp B - Discuss.

I listened through some not so great monitors, (Roland MA 8s) and then through my AT headphones. I was leaning towards A with the mp3 files and then chose B again with the wave files. Then I read that Preamp A was the RNP. I have mixed emotions about this. I have an RNP and I love it with...

    Sm57 Poll

Well, when I match it with an RNP, it is the best sounding mic ever on MY voice, better than a KSM27, KSM32, SM7, MD441, MD421 and a C1. That could all be due to my lack of knowledge for recording audio........ but, consider this guy's opinion from a Mojo Pie article ......... if it's good...

    ProTools compatible system

Watch Craigslist in your area. I recently picked up a used Mbox for $150 and a Digi001 for $300 a little over a year ago. I think the original Mbox works fine. I also have an old Audiomedia III card that still works fine and when I ran an ART DPS II into the SPDIF input, I got great Pbass...
