    Concentric Cone-Yay or Nay?

I'm using some speakers I bought with a cheap GE stereo, I bought at Target. I believe they are about 5 1/2 in full range. They are short throw in a vented box. I know it sounds crazy, but these are the best speakers I have ever had. I never even have the erge to eq them, that would be...

    Concentric Cone-Yay or Nay?

I'll put some speakers where my mouth is. I heard these at Sam Ash hooked to a Roland keyboard. They seemed to sound quite good. They even have digital input. Check them out. http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/item--EDIMA5D They are made by Roland. GT

    Concentric Cone-Yay or Nay?

I have been through a lot of speakers in my life. I had Tannoy dual concentric, back when they were the shits. KLH, Advent, Hartley, others I can't even remember. Then it finally hit me, the design is just wrong. The best speakers I ever had are now in my studio, smallish fullrange. I...

    Concentric Cone-Yay or Nay?

Dual Concentric, is what your talking about. This is a speaker where a seperate tweeter is mounted at the center of the woofer. This design is on the right track, as it represents the close to ideal single point source A standard woofer tweeter array, represents a line source radiator, the...

    monitors or headphones?

Phones are good for tracking down noise problems, and signals that are too hot. Phones are great for finding the most optimum direction to face, to get the best signal to noise out of your electric guitar. Kind of like using a stethascope. But for mixing, gots to be speakers. I would...

Blue Bear, lets talk eq, and added noise......

Bruce, Yeah, hate to admit it I do like my Pod, I actually have the original 2.0 chip, for what that's worth. I didn't like the sound of the upgrade, as much. Paul Mcartney once said, there's nothing as pure as a guitar direct in. Thanks much for letting us pick your brain, and for your...

Blue Bear, lets talk eq, and added noise......

Eq, seems to be a nescesary evil. The noise problem I seem to be having with my new found, subtractive truck eq, lies squarely on the shoulders of my Pod. While striving to get as clean a sound as possible out of my Pod, I have to turn the drive down to at least 1 1/2 to 2. This alone brings...

Blue Bear, lets talk eq, and added noise......

Hey Bruce, Your pretty smart for a duck man!! Anyway, I bet you don't have much respect for noise reduction? I allways thought that Dolby guy, should be taken out and shot. GT

    new song 'JacK'

I listen through phones, Man that's a nice tune, and playing!! Now the nit, I noticed a little hiss, right before the music started, probably not heard through speakers, once the music starts, hiss gets drowned out. Also seems like maybe you mp3'd a little hot? Great work!!! GT

Blue Bear, lets talk eq, and added noise......

I suppose the only sound modification device, that doesn't add noise, would be compression. This actually surpresses noise, but compression also has negetive side effects. Maybe someone with more experience with compression, would care to elaborate? Bruce, side effects? GT

Bruce, Do you believe in any kind of noise reduction? Or is it all bunk? Do you like final Compresion? GT

    Truck monitors??

Thanks for the listen Bruce, I will pay head to your suggestions. I think this is the best recording I have gotton so far, thanks to my truck, very weird. This is to my ears anyway. This is the first recording that I have made that sounds fairly good in my truck, studio, through phones...

Blue Bear, lets talk eq, and added noise......

Bruce, Great article, totaly agree with everything you said. Subtractive eq is the way to go. I would like to add, that subrtactive eq lowers the signal to noise ratio. Borderline noisey items, such as guitar processors seem to suffer the most. In other words removing some of the...

Blue Bear, lets talk eq, and added noise......

Hey Bruce, Ok, we talked about the necessity of eq for balancing a mix to sound good on all speakers. Now with eq, especially attenuation, comes added noise. Less signal, more noise. What are your thoughts. GT

    Truck monitors??

Ok, on the down side.............. With the final eq I used (cutting frequencies), comes less gain, more noise. Less signal, more noise. The trade off is way more than worth it, but now I have to work on this. GT

    Truck monitors??

Putting some sound where my mouth is, Here's the little ditty I used to eq my mix in my truck. The playing sucks, and I didn't do my usual turn away from the equiptment to reduce noise. Mistakes and all. Track, and Blue Bear, Let me know how bad the tone sucks, if you would be so kind...
