I agree with not doing the radio shack thaangg But I would think about 57s, very multi purpose that you can use for other things like guitar or even sometimes vocals when theres no condensers around. you can find 57s for about $75 .US

Its a good work horse comp many studios have them or the big brother DBX166. just a straight up comp no real major coloring. not the best but by far not the worst. I have one.

To (Texroadkill) I do think something is wrong with the head phone jack in you Masterlink. I do not see anything in the menu's that could set it mono.

Give the guy a break he has a very good Question based on sound not how you feel what is good quility music. It will all depend on what you are recording to, Dig or analog. this changes a lot in how you record the sound you are looking for.

I have Had mine for about a year. It gets used as much as my mixer and recording gear, I dont know how I would get along with out it. I just wanted to hear what others thought about the Masterlink and its uses!

I also record Digital, I find that recording heavy guitar can be the hardest sound to get for the guitar. I dont know if this is the sound your trying to go for but I do believe a 57 1 to 3 inches aimed to the center but angled a little off center/ but its really a matter of the amp its self so...

I agree with Gidge, 6 to 12 is about where I usually put the singers in my studio, and it really does depend on the style of songer, its also good to sing with the mic just a little up from mouth level so that you use the right muscles and technech. excuse the spelling.
