thanks!
hell yeah. this is exactly the stuff that i needed. appreciate it all.
but i have one SUPER NOOB question. sry.
what is "mix down." messing with the final output? or processing it to go to mastering? or wut? sry again, all self taught. :D
Most common: verse, chorus, verse, bridge, chorus.
But now i'm trying songs with NO chorus. the whole thing builds and tells a story. between each verse will be a musical interlude.
light intro
quiet verse
mid interlude
mid verse
heavier interlude
mid verse
heaviest interlude
quietest verse...
i am. but i didn't mix those. well, i mixed the "stay right here" demo a WHILE ago and i've gotten quite better since then. that was done on garage band with a guitar hero microphone and simulated drums. "terrified" and "it's not you its me" was done by this other guy. didn't turn out too well...

First, sorry if there are similar posts.
I have mixed music for about a year now, self learned, etc. i find some stuff that works, but i don't really know when/if I'm committing musical sins.
So, my question is:
What am i missing? Here's generally what i would do, sort of in order (using logic...
so wait, is your question how to put complicated time signatures and tempos down onto official sheet music? or this scenario:
"holy crap that was awesome... what the hell did i just play??!?! time signature is all weird. seven... no, eleven.. wait, damn now it just sounds like 8"
the answer to...

genre is valuable because the human mind generally needs to classify. it expedites conversation and makes it easy to communicate about music. its also just a topic of interest even if it isn't entirely important. like what the hell is grunge? slow sarcastic sometimes acoustic simple metal thats...
i've decided to bail on it entirely and put all the distorted guitar tracks on its own bus and putting the multipressor on that. fixed my problem cause thats where it really needed the effect. the vocals don't mess with it and it doesn't add all the noisiness to the mix. it made the drums sound...
I'm a minimalist--can you guys recommend a USB 8 track (8 xlr's)? a 6 track would also work but idk if they do those.
and are different models compatible with different software? I'd need logic/mac compatible.
I'd be down to spend around 200 bucks if thats attainable. I really dont need...
i see editing the master track as a whole part of mastering. thats why i posted here.
and yeah kip4 thats what i figured i could try. but idk i like the idea of just doing what the multipressor is doing with the individual instruments so i get a similar effect and more precise product.
i come here for help and suggestions. if im asking for assistance with volume, dont tell me to give up because everything i know about recorded music is wrong. when i ask for help with volume, thats what i want. so stop trying to argue.
and to an extent, compressed mixes do sound good so you...
substances will make you approach things differently. under the influence song writing works best with being mildly high, or buzzed. too much of a substance tends to kill your will to do stuff...
also don't use it as a crutch. led zeppelin wrote some kick ass songs under some powerful drugs...
it sounds cool: more intelligently and metaphorically poetic than a normal song.
here's some ideas about music:
1) since there isn't a specific mood here, i'd go with something ambient, somewhat psychedelically, dynamic, abstract, etc. this also allows your words to come through
2) when i write...
So yesterday i was messing around with a software multipressor. I mixed some guitars, a bass, and a simulated drum beat, and slapped on a gentile multipressor, and it sounded freakin awesome. near radio quality.... in garage band. i was stoked. although, the whole bit was like 30 seconds of loud...
