    Tascam 2488neo

Others have said the same thing. It has occurred to me that perhaps the number of bad reports has something to do with the number sold. The 2488 was priced well below feature competitive alternatives from day one, including this new one.

    Finished vs Unfinished Songs

Oh yeah .... thanks for the kind words. The resemblance to ZZ is a persistant comment to the simple stuff I do. Half country indeed -- I have always thought that when the rise of disco and dance pop cut the heart out of the rock business, all the hippy guitar players traded in their headbands...

    Finished vs Unfinished Songs

I am always open to lyrical ideas, although sad songs aren't much my style. Send 'em via PM if you like.

    Tascam 2488neo

Wonder if they fixed any of the stuff that failed so frequently on the earlier versions. For reference, preorder price at AMS is $799 incl 1 year extended warranty: http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-TAS-2488NEO So tempting....

How do you write a melody?

I usually have a basic melody in my head when developing the chord progression, and hum along as I play. The final melody often changes, sometimes drastically, when I have the backing music down and write/sing lyrics.

Fastest guitarist in the world - official

you wish you could do that shit like that, even if you try and make out to everyone else that you don't. Nope, but I wish I could play any Hendrix tune like he did.

    Working in Radio

Depends on the job. At radio stations technical precautions need to be followed so as to not screw up the radio transmission within the FCC rules. Don't know about now, but in the old days one had to have an FCC license to do certain jobs at a radio station. A 3rd class license was for...

Watch this totally stupid rendition of a classic immediately brought another classic to mind: Belushi on the staircase in Animal House.

    Small Fender Recommends?

I can't remember what I did with my Silvertone after I graduated to a Super Reverb. Sold that and got a Marshall "100W" stack (1972 watts) with 2 4x12 cabs -- big mistake - used it a couple times for gigs outdoors and in gyms, but couldn't tone it down enough for clubs (no drive channels in...

    2488 Rewind Button Getting Cantankerous....

Good info to have Zaphod. I have read lots worse stories about the 2488, especially the original version. But at the current going price of $700, it is soooo tempting.

    Small Fender Recommends?

Very interesting, considering you stated amp history. Do you play clean or with overdrive. If the latter, do you turn the jazzmaster up to achieve distortion or used extenal pedals. I have a Fender solid-state Champion 30 that sounds just fine when playing clean or using the amps' overdrive...

    Pick your pick

Dunlop tortex yellow (.73) or green (.88) these days for electric and 6-string acoustic -- yellow preferred for the latter. Have yet to find a suitable pick for the acoustic 12-string so use fingers and thumb. Saw a street musician at the beach using a rubber brush kind of thing for acoustic...

To Tired to Write and Record

I know what you mean. The digital Tascam Pocketstudio 5 4-tracker I used is long discontinued now, and only supports proprietary compressed recording so getting the tracks out individually to mix on a PC is too much of a pain to comtemplate. But it fits nicely in a drawer where it remains...

To Tired to Write and Record

I don't even try to do anything on the weekdays, but always make it a point to spend 2 or 3 hours with music on one weekend Day or the other. What I do depends on my mood -- sometimes fooling around on the Yamaha keys seeking musical inpiration that may or may not result in putting together...

    Poll of Guitar Polls

Hey Joe I was lucky enough to see the dude live three times in the late 60s. Hey Joe was one of my favorites, and one of only two Jimi songs that I ever dared to do with a band -- Fire being the other. I always took the original arrangement approach though, rather than trying in vain to play...

    The secret of guitar playing

Learn chords and how they fit together to make songs. Learn scales and apply them to playing melodies. Learn enough music theory to understand what you are playing instead of just playing from memory At some point, check out the C-A-G-E-D learning approach to master the whole neck.

    Yamaha PSR keyboards

Pretty much how I use my PSR-K1. Sitting there and fiddling with it inspires simple songs, and the auto-accompaniment and "record" features let me expand the ideas into backing music in the form of "user songs". Mine differs from some in that it has a feature that has a save as MIDI function...

    Yamaha PSR keyboards

What Yamaha board are you looking at? I have a PSR-K1, bought in '05 that serves me well. None of the inexpensive keyboards have keys that will stand up to heavy gigging use IMO, but as beginners keyboards that probably doesn't matter. I did however go with Yamaha over Casio partly because...
