    Best CD duplication

game plan My gigs average about 1 or 2 per month, although when the cd is ready I'll probably have a couple "cd release" parties which might generate more sales than usual. I'd try to sell them through internet publicity also. I would only send them to radio stations and record companies in...

    Best CD duplication

I will soon be releasing my first almost-full-length cd (all homerecorded, BTW). I am looking at a "full service" duplication, including printing, cover. Is Oasis the undisputed champ? My concern is that I'd rather start with only 100, and Oasis makes more sense if you're doing at least 500...

    dobro's mixing tips: #1

True homereckers know that this is best accomplished with an eq software plug in. Vocals should be boosted +15 at 200hz, 500hz, 1.5khz, 3khz, 5khz and 12khz. To avoid muddiness, cut 0.5 at 400 hz and 8khz. In contrast, acoustic guitars should be boosted +15 at 200hz, 500hz, 1.5khz, 3khz, 5khz...

How to record a nylon string classical guitar

I think these are all good suggestions. As far as effects go, I would try a bit of delay. Especially if you are using digital effects, you will get a fuller sound with delay than with reverb (you can also try a little reverb but with, say 30 ms pre-delay)

    First-person point of view songs

The song is going to be different from, say, a novel, since you're actually singing it, also, probably, with some emotion. You're selling it like it's real, even if the particulars of the experience have nothing to do with your life. I guess being a singer-songwriter is like being a playright...

    Which pickup

Baby, Don't Do It! Would you ask a Luthier to weld bolts together (or whatever it is that machinists do)? Shell out the dough, Bro. Drilling that little hole through the bridge (etc.) is a sensitive operation.

    Help describe Slim

I'm trying to come up with the best way to very briefly describe my music, a way that will make people curious to listen to it. It is not necessary that you listen to my stuff in order to give me advice about this, in fact, it might be better if you don't! You should know at least that this is...

    Best Electric Guitar under $400

We got the Mex Strat I was all set to steer her toward the Yamaha Pacifica. The thing is, we had to play it first. NONE of the music stores on 48th Street in Manhattan carry Yamaha electric guitars. I took her to Guitar Center (in Long Island City, Queens), and they don't carry them any more...

    art vs. entertainment

Okay. According to the American Heritage Dictionary, 2d ed., the first two definitions of "art" are as follows: 1. Human effort to imitate, supplement, alter, or counteract the work of nature. 2.a. The conscious production or arrangement of sounds, colors, forms, movements, or other elements...

    Best Electric Guitar under $400

I'm taking my 14-year-old daughter shopping for an electric guitar. Guitar is not her main instrument; it's basically just to goof around with. She is a good beginner acoustic guitarist already. Her favorite group is Bare Naked Ladies. I see that Sam Ash has some strats for sale in the 3-400...

    Sjoko2's mastering offer scam

Sjoko has been fine about returning e-mails from me checking as to status. Most of the delay was caused by the surgery. To make it up to me, he has guaranteed that my CD will go platinum within 6 weeks of its release. Thanks, Sjoko. -Larry
