    Listen to Sgt. Pepper's or Magical Mystery Tour. Of course this music is over 30 years old but it doesn't seem to follow any formulas if only by accident.

    It's interesting to note, no pun intended, that many of the well known and succesful songwriter's use the same chord progressions or start with the same chord for all of their biggest hits. Try a Capo if you want a little more flexibility.
