    Cables: XLR vs. TRS, Balanced?

Good point. It never dawned on me to use a speaker cable on a guitar. Now that you said that, I'll have to try it. Just to see what happens. OK, maybe I'll take your word for it.

Mixing: Nearfield monitors vs. Crummy speakers.

I think maybe your teacher was pointing out the fact that most people will listen to your mixes on cheap stereos with cheap speakers. That boombox Joe Schmoe listens too all day at work doesn't have the clear and defined highs, nor the solid and accurate bass response that studio monitors do...

    Mic, mixer, pre-amp

Adding a mixer will help you if you either a) want more routing options for using external effects or multiple peices of gear without plugging/unplugging. Or b) you are unhappy with the mic preamp you have now and are looking for a different sound. Try your setup as it is now. A good set of...

    Pitch change program...

Definately retrack. If they complain, tell them that it's their fault they didn't make this decision before they started. PProbably what you should do is tell them that computers can't do that sort of thing and they HAVE to retrack it. Remind them that they will have to have their...

    Cables: XLR vs. TRS, Balanced?

    Click Track problems argh!!

You, my freind are very very welcome. I think I shall put together a visual guide regarding this topic. There seems to be many of these mixer/sound card combinations that can sometimes be very confusing to someone who has little or no experience with signal routing.

    sound card probs

Are there any signal processors in your setup? There might be a noise gate in there somewhere. The effect would be no hiss untill theres a signal at the input strong enough to overcome the gate. Then the noise would start. If you turn off the gate, the noise will be there all the time, but...

    the best mic pre's?

Perhaps Neve is the most coveted of all boards, although there are a few in the same catagory. More importantly than a schematic though, is the choice of specific components. Things like transformers all looks the same on the schematic, but vary immensly in reality. In order to reproduce any...

What do you love the most of your computer ?

At some point, I realized there wan't anything I really liked about my computer. After all of the tweaking, upgrading, modding, tweaking, upgrading, and more tweaking, it was still missing something. While at the local autoparts store I stumpled upon my now most prized computer item...

    MIDI me feet!

According to Mesa, you should have gotten a 2 button footpedal with your purchase. If you still have the box, take another look inside. If it's not there, go buy another Mesa, steal the footpedal and return the rest. That's probably what someone did in the first place. On second thought...

    Cables: XLR vs. TRS, Balanced?

You don't need to limit yourself with 4 mics. On most devices like your Korg, the TRS inputs are line level inputs though, not mic inputs. Meaning that there's no preamp in the circuit. To avoid stuffing my foot in my mouth (as I've done many times before) I checked the specs on the Korg...

    Audio recording problem with vst5

Hmm...so it's just that you don't see the waveform, but the audio is actually being recorded. How about if you zoom in on the waveform. Can you see the missing part there?

    Audio recording problem with vst5

it's called Preroll. It gives you a 2 bar count before it starts recording. In VST32 5.0 double click on the 'Click' button in the transport control. It will give you the controls for Preroll, Precount, how many bars etc...

OK, let's try again. Take the output from the soud card and plug it into the mixing board ->The set of L/R sockets labelled 2TK IN Route that to the control room (or headhpone) output. ->To the right of the Main level control is the 2TK RETURN, turn that up. Below that is a button (2TK TO...

USB Audio Interfaces with USB 2.0

A USB 1.0 device plugged into a USB 2.0 port will funtion exactly the same as a USB 1.0 device. If you have many devices connected to said USB 2.0 port however, the increased bandwidth should allow more USB 1.0 devices to be connected without affecting performance.
